Bright advances to two finals at Indoor Track & Field Championships By Clayton Barefield Brookings, SD - The Lindsey Wilson Women's Indoor Track & Field team closed out the first day of competition on Friday at the 2019 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships, held at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex. Safia Bright advanced to two finals on Saturday in the 60-meter and 200-meter events. Bright claimed the top spot in the 60 with a prelim time of 7.53, qualifying her for a finals appearance. She also placed fourth in the 200-meter with a prelim time of 24.62 seconds, good for another appearance in Saturday's finals. Reed and Bradford advance to championship wrestling semifinals By Christopher Coombs Des Moines, IA - The No. 7-ranked Lindsey Wilson wrestling team sits in third place after day one of the NAIA Wrestling National Championships on Friday at the Jacobson Exhibition Center in Des Moines, IA. The Blue Raiders ended Friday with 56 total team points. Grand View (IA) leads the field with 137 points, followed by Mid-South Conference member Life (GA) with 56.5 points. Five Lindsey Wilson grapplers remain alive in their respective double-elimination brackets. Brandon Reed (seeded No. 1 at Heavyweight) and Brett Bradford (No. 2 at 165) both reached the championship semifinals. Brady Moser (No. 8 at 133), Latrell Davis (No. 6 at 149) and Mark Taijeron all suffered one loss and are wrestling in the consolation bracket. Sparks Park. No. 13-ranked Blue Raiders (8-0) defeated Brescia (2-6) 13-3 and 2-0. Annabelle Ramirez threw a perfect game with 13 strikeouts in the second game of the double-header. Callum Pilgrim led Lindsey Wilson hitting 4-of-7 with a grand slam and five RBI's spread across the two games. Lindsey Wilson offense out-hit Brescia by a combined total of 21-8 for the series with another double-digit RBI performance with 15 RBI's. CAC-VFD: Overnight house fire on Buel Collins Rd By Donald Hare The Columbia-Adair County Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call that came in at 11:50pmCT on Friday night, March 1, 2019, to a very large residence at 1021 Buel Collins Road. Upon firefighters arrival, fire was coming from the roof. The house, which belonged to Willard Fudge, was a total loss. There were 16 firemen from Adair County Fire on the scene for almost 4 hours. RIDES: Having to trade cars again - traditional or electric? Renewable energy has long been an interest of mine so in the face of having to change cars yet again, I performed some mental gymnastics to convince myself that the cost savings over time would offset the added expense of going electric. By Tom Waggener In 27 years of driving, up until Labor Day 2018, I'd owned 10 cars (not counting the Plymouth Barracuda the late Dr. Phil Aaron gave me when I was 17). On becoming a realtor three years ago, the job required driving - a lot - way more than ever before. I traded in my trusty Honda Element for a 1998 Lexus Ls 400, a phenomenal car with a never-ending list of minor annoying issues, then upgraded to a 2012 Mercedes E350 4matic with high miles. Unfortunately it developed a rather expensive-to-fix timing issue and I realized I needed to trade far sooner than I'd intended.
