Tommy writes, "As you may know sunrise/sunset can be my favorite subjects, and I will take different phases of each one of the same and end up with a lot of pictures that don't pass the critique test. When I review them on a bigger screen then the deleting process begins, but this particular sunrise that was taken back in January escaped the delete button."

Letter: remembers commercial on lath and plaster quality

Vonnie Kolbenschlag writes:
Advances in building materials or almost any new way of doing something, puts someone out of business. In the 1950s builders began using drywall and I can still remember the singing commercials on the radio advising people to not use drywall which would not be the quality of lath and plaster.

The words were "Knock on the wall, (knock, knock, knock) be sure it's lath and plaster, knock, knock, knock on the wall."

The tune was catchy and stuck in my mind - sorry I can't convey the music in this email. --Vonnie

Carol Perkins: Fluffy Sam can't sleep

Previous column: Finding the laughter

By Carol Perkins

I am not proud of my deed. As a matter of fact, Guy said I should be ashamed, but I had reached the point where I had to do something. Fluffy, our dog, had pushed my last button when he scratched on my side of the bed at two in the morning for me to put him on the bed. Then he positioned himself on top of my head and licked Guy's arm until he woke up, flung his arm across my head to rid Fluffy from his licking, and caused Fluffy to bark right into my ear.

Something had to be done about this dog's sleeping habits, or lack of, so I had a remedy. If an adult could fall asleep with a sleep aid, why couldn't a dog?

Conservation officers boat supplies to stranded residents

Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife

Conservation officers with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources are teaming with The Servant's Closet and Leslie County government to deliver supplies to residents stranded by flooding in the headwaters of Buckhorn Lake.

"The lake is higher than I've ever seen it," said Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Lt. Greg Watts. "The county was just overwhelmed. They didn't have any boats or any way to get supplies to people, so we were happy to help them out."

The Servant's Closet, a Leslie County-based charity founded by Dana Watson, had collected supplies but couldn't deliver them.

"Our employees don't just live in a community, we are part of the community," said Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commissioner Rich Storm. "We knew we could help, so we deployed the people and equipment needed to assist those in trouble."
