Ernestine Kemp Lloyd, 75, Adair County, KY (1943-2019) She loved watching the Adair County Indians, University of Kentucky Wildcats and the Adair County Band. She was a member and piano player at the Gradyville United Methodist Church, a former factory worker at several different sewing factories and retired from the Adair County School System where she was a cook at ACHS. LWC Swimming competes at NAIA National Championships By Benjamin Riegger The Lindsey Wilson men and women's swimming team travels to Columbus, Georgia to compete at the NAIA Men and Women's Swimming National Championships at the Columbus Aquatic Center. The Blue Raiders last competed at the Mid-South Conference Championships on January 31-February 2. The men's team placed fourth, while the women's team placed fifth in conference championships. The women's team is ranked seventh in the NAIA Coaches' Top 10 Poll, while the men's side is ranked eighth. He was a devoted husband, father and doting grandfather who was known for his witty sense of humor and love of peanut brittle, which he kept handy for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Emergency shelter fund raising beginning by J.O.Y. Ministries By Maggie Coleman J.O.Y. Ministries is kicking off its campaign to raise $12,000 to build an emergency shelter for the homeless on the county parking lot beside the 911 Call Center. A thermometer at the historic Courthouse will track the progress of this campaign. Earlier this winter, Adair County agreed to rent J.O.Y. a portion of the parking lot for the purpose of building a shelter to be maintained by J.O.Y. and its volunteers and donations. To build this building, J.O.Y. is asking the community to step forward to donate funds towards the project. Salato Wildlife Center reopens Friday March 1, 2019 Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Frankfort, KY - The Salato Wildlife Education Center in Frankfort reopens on March 1. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources operates the Salato Wildlife Center as part of its mission to educate the public about the state's native wildlife. The facility offers viewing opportunities for a variety of wildlife, including a bear, eagle, bobcats, deer, bison, birds of prey and more. To mark the occasion of Salato's annual spring opening, the first 50 children through the doors will receive a complimentary souvenir sticker or magnet. Visitors can also expect to see renovations made during the center's winter closure. Renovations include an update to Salato's popular bobcat enclosure. The exhibit now has a fully functioning water feature, complete with flowing stream, pond and small waterfall. Quarles helps craft new national hemp policy State Ag Officials Call for Consistent, Uniform Regulation Arlington, VA - Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles on Tuesday applauded a national organization of government agriculture officials for adopting a new hemp policy that recognizes its economic potential and encourages uniformity in regulation. Commissioner Quarles authored the policy based on Kentucky's existing hemp regulatory framework. The National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA) adopted the new policy at its annual Winter Policy Conference. "Updating our hemp policy to ensure consistency in testing and regulation serves states by anticipating and addressing challenges before they develop," said Commissioner Quarles. "It's important that we are proactive in our policy-making so that paths are clear and opportunities are present for hemp growers. As second vice president of NASDA, I was honored to write this policy platform to ensure consistent national hemp regulatory standards." KY Main Street Program generates $91M of investment in 2018 Campbellsville is among 25 Kentucky communities to achieve national accreditation for 2019 By Diane Comer Frankfort, KY - More than $91 million was infused into the state's economy in 2018 by Kentucky Main Street Program (KYMS) participating communities, according to the Kentucky Heritage Council/State Historic Preservation Office (KHC). Totaling $91,191,866, this cumulative investment in downtown commercial districts was reported by 29 communities and represents $73,720,221 of private investment matched by $17,471,684 in public improvements. Cumulatively, the program also generated 1,215 new jobs in Main Street districts and the creation of 142 new businesses.
