Jeanellia Kay (Nell) Hudson, 71, Russell County, KY She was a homemaker and attended Bernard Church of God. Her husband, Jack Miller Hudson, survives. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters - Faye Doss, Alma Shepherd, Jean Long, Joyce White, and Janice George. Jeanellia Kay "Nell" Hudson, 71, of Russell Springs, died Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at her home. Funeral service will be 2pmCT Friday, February 22, 2019 at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Lindsey Cornett and Bro. Herl D. Robertson officiating. Visitation is from 4-8pmCT Thursday and after 8amCT Friday until funeral time. Interment will follow in the Shepherd Cemetery. After Nine Years Adair receives $97,000 FEMA Funds During the spring of 2010, Kentucky counties saw tornadoes, mudslides, severe storms and flooding. Weather so destructive that Governor Steve Beshear declared a State of Emergency which allowed FEMA to determine which specific areas of the state qualified for federal aid. Now, after nine years Adair receives $97,000 FEMA Funds. By Tiffany Kessler Thanks to the determination of Mike Keltner, Adair County Emergency Management Director, and Melinda Quinn, Adair County Treasurer, the fiscal court recently received its final payment from FEMA for a bridge damaged in 2010. Purdy-Sano Road extends from Liberty Road, near Cook's Transmission, to Allen Schoolhouse/Grassy Springs Road. It's on that route that you'll find the Purdy-Sano Bridge that was completely redone in 2011 with funds from the Adair Co. Fiscal Court. It is an assurance to business and industry that the community is committed to providing the highly-skilled workforce required in today's competitive global economy. By Linda Waggener For the past three years Adair County has enjoyed the status of being a certified Work Ready Community. That's important to anyone making grant applications in local organizations, and it's important to have that designation for attracting new employers to Columbia and Adair County. The state mandates that all communities are now to submit data for recertification. Ellen Zornes, Executive Director of the Columbia-Adair Chamber of Commerce, is meeting with committee members who will help gather information for renewed certification. Garnett 'Snake' Sweeney, 85, Casey County, KY (1933-2019) He was an electrician and truck driver and he was a former deputy for the Casey County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He loved fishing, playing poker and hanging out at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. Garnett "Snake" Sweeney, of Liberty, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2019, at Casey County Hospital. He was 85. A funeral mass will be held at 10amCT/11amET on Friday, February 22, 2019, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Casey County Memorial Gardens. Wolf Creek Dam rock slide, rising lake levels causing worry By Linda Waggener Discussion at the Adair County Tourism meeting Tuesday evening, February 19, 2019, included concerns over the constant rain, the near record water level in both Green River Lake and Lake Cumberland and Monday's Wolf Creek Dam rockslide. Tourism Treasurer Pam Hancock shared a message she received during the meeting, "Jamestown Marina has made the announcement that at lake elevation 745', they will be turning off all power to the lodge and the marina slips. At 743' water will be over the causeway and the only access to boats will be by water taxi." David Lewis Butler of Holmes Bend Marina said 750' is the highest water level recorded so far and with all the rains happening and the forecast calling for more rain, this is getting very close. RKW North America Commits to $18M Simpson Co Expansion By Nicole Burton/Jack Mazurak Frankfort, KY - RKW North America Inc., a German-owned manufacturer of industrial film, will significantly expand its Simpson County facility, investing in new technology with a roughly $18 million project expected to create 30 full-time jobs. RKW leaders plan to build a new 30,000-square-foot manufacturing and warehouse facility, as well as add state-of-the-art equipment allowing the company to tap new markets. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain, and the area remains under a flood watch through 6amCT tomorrow. Today's high should be near 59F. Light south wind increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 36 mph. Today's chance of precipitation is 100%, and new rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch are possible. Showers remain likely tonight, mainly before 9pmCT, then mostly cloudy, with a low around 35F. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. The overnight chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch are possible.
