Missing TN woman found dead in remote part of Laurel Co By John Cheves, Lexington Herald-Leader Authorities found a missing Tennessee woman dead outside of her car on Christmas Day in a remote, wooded area of Laurel County. Lynda Ashley Gentry, 74, was found Tuesday afternoon near her white Buick down a 30-foot embankment on London Dock Road, about 16 miles west of London, according to the Laurel County Sheriff's Office. A death investigation is underway, but Gentry was the apparent victim of cold temperatures, according to the Laurel County Coroner's Office. Corbin event aims to 'change the narrative' about Eastern KY By Will Wright, Lexington Herald Leader The TEDx speaker series has garnered millions of views on YouTube, and in March, the event will make its debut in Eastern Kentucky at TEDx Corbin. Organizers hope the event, to be held March 9 at the Second and Main building in downtown Corbin, will give Appalachian Kentuckians the opportunity to tell their own stories about the region, its history and its future. "There is a renewed genuine interest in the region as the nation is trying to understand the rural experience in general, and in particular the Appalcahian experience," said Crystal Kinser, the event's lead licensee and one of its volunteer organizers. "By telling those stories on the TEDx stage, we're now granted a global audience to show people we're more than the single narrative." No one was in one place long enough to get an exact count, but based on the adult children and the number of people in their families and the grandparents and great-grandparents, I believe my number is correct. That is how many were at my sister-in-laws for Christmas to which my mother and I (and Guy who stayed home to watch yet another Hallmark movie) were invited. We are always invited, but often we have something going on that keeps us away, but this year was a quiet one. Guy and I (and Carla's family) were going to Texas after Christmas to spend with Jon and his family, so we didn't have our usual get-together at our house. When my sister-in-law (was married to my late brother, Tim, who has been gone twenty-three years) and her husband invited us to their family gathering, I thought about the traditions of long ago with my grandparents.
