Letter: Remembering Billy Grant BJ HAGY writes: Billy Grant will long be remembered by me and perhaps countless others. Many pairs of shoes were purchased from him over the years. My Uncle Tommy Dickerson and I both used to buy our Bass shoes from Billy. In 1975 I bought the only pair of cowboy boots I've ever owned from Billy. I still have those boots and they still have a lot of life left in them. Thank you Billy for a great memory. May you rest in peace. --BJ 2018-12-18 14:17:11 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

PSC opens case to revamp water loss reporting Commission wants greater accuracy and consistency from water utilities By Andrew Melnykovych Frankfort, KY - The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) has opened a case to examine and improve the way in which water utilities in the state measure, record and report the loss of water from their systems. In an order issued today, the PSC set out a proposed mandatory water loss reporting procedure, providing utilities with a reporting form and instructions on its use. The order directs utilities to provide information on how they currently calculate water loss and to provide any comments or questions on the form proposed by the PSC. The PSC recently has placed greater emphasis on the problem of unaccounted for water loss - water which a utility produces or purchases, but which is never recorded as sold to customers or used in other ways, such as for fire protection or by the utility itself. Most unaccounted for water loss is due to system leaks, line breaks or other operational or infrastructure problems. Kentucky Color: The Inaugural CMCM Poll By Billy Joe Fudge Well, it looks like the lot beside Lee's Famous Recipe has sold. I don't know what the new owner's plans are but given the businesses in the area, I would surmise there would be a fast food consideration. Since the lot appears too small for a Cracker Barrel, I would guess something else. Therefore, I would like to commission the very first Columbia Magazine Community Matters (CMCM) Poll to provide local scientific data about "matters" of local importance and concern. 2018-12-18 10:19:34 | Comments | Printable version

Columbia Baptist Church Christmas Play By Ellen Zornes One of the many church plays that took place on Sunday, December 16, was "The Nazareth Newsroom" at Columbia Baptist Church. The production was an entertaining back and forth from the newsroom using the modern vernacular of Tweets and Hashtags for those traveling to Bethlehem for the census to let the newsroom know what is happening on the road and surrounding fields. Meanwhile the field reporters are talking to shepherds about the unusual stars and the one extremely bright one, to the wisemen traveling to see the baby and finally to Mary and Joseph. All this is interspersed with the choir of Nazarene travelers singing Christmas Carols. It was a very entertaining and unique way to tell the Christmas Story.
