Students get congratulations, named CMS Exceeding Eagles

Congratulations to Vallie Houk, Bronson Cox, Gabby Bright, Diego Noyola, Davanna Reardon and Brady Hoosier, Campbellsville Middle School Exceeding Eagles for the week of November 26, 2018.

Students who receive the Exceeding Eligible award are those who go above and beyond inside and outside of the classroom, accomplish a goal they didn't believe possible and excel in their academics and extra-curricular activities.

A male and female student in each grade level receive the honor each week.

Avis Wilson, 86, Russell County, KY (1932-2018)

He was a carpet installer and a member of Salem United Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers - Jack, Frank, Leonard, & Leon Wilson and two sisters - Alice Whittle, Bessie Meece.

Avis Wilson, 86, of Russell Springs, died Thursday, December 6, 2018 at his home.

Funeral services will be 1pmCT Sunday, December 9, 2018 at Bernard Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Larold Gosser, Bro. Delvin Wilson, and Bro. Ryan Coffey officiating. Visitation 5-8pmCT Saturday and after 8amCT on Sunday. Interment will be in the Salem Cemetery. Special Music will be provided by Jimmy Rogers. Pallbearers - Gary Meece, David Wilson, Joe Wilson, Noel Wilson Joel Wilson, Alan Bradshaw.

Nell Engle Baker, 101 years young, Daviess County, KY

She was a school teacher and taught Sunday school. She was a merchant and retired Post Master. She enjoyed working in her garden, working puzzle books and watching Wheel of Fortune.

Nell Engle Baker, 101, passed away peacefully with her son and daughter-in-law Dwight and Patty Baker by her side Friday, December 7, 2018 in Owensboro, KY.

Funeral services will be 1pmCT Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Russell Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 10am-1pmCT at the funeral home.

Benefit auction for Mindy Ford Curry Saturday, 8 Dec 2018

A Benefit auction for Mindy Ford Curry will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Purdy Separate Baptist Church in Columbia, KY. Mindy is in the fourth stage of kidney disease and is also battling diabetes. She is currently undergoing dialysis three times a week and is no longer able to work.

Food will start being served at 4pmCT including chili or hot dog, chips and drink for $6 per plate, chocolate pie $1 per slice, cupcakes $1 each, and cookies, 2 for $1. A Live auction begins at 6pmCT.

That kind of December day - tobacco stripping, bird hunting

Billy Joe Fudge called in a report of how things looked on a trip around his town this morning.

He said, "It's that kind of perfect December morning to remind me of tobacco stripping and bird hunting." He said sometimes his Dad would even want to strip tobacco green just so he could get on to the bird hunting.

Spiritual Tones at Second Christian on Sun 9 Dec 2018

Second Christian Church, located at 829 Burkesville St., Columbia, KY, will be holding a Christmas Musical Program on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at 3pmCT, with Spiritual Tones singing.

Paroled robber robs bank that was robbed before

The Kentucky Standard

Bardstown Police have someone in custody after a bank robbery Friday morning. The suspect was picked up at his home and charged with second-degree robbery. He had recently been released from prison on parole for serving time in another bank robbery, in Springfield in 2008.

Friday's holdup happened at the WesBanco branch on Third St., which had just been robbed last month, and in 2015 and 2014.

Cavins resigning as LWC Volleyball coach

By Chris Wells

Andy Cavins, who coached Lindsey Wilson College volleyball to the 2017 NAIA National Championship while producing an .877 winning percentage over his eight-year stay at LWC, announced his resignation on Friday.

Cavins departs the Lindsey Wilson program as the all-time winningest coach with 272 wins. He led the Blue Raiders to eight straight NAIA National Tournament appearances, including a national title, two NAIA Fab Fours and four straight national quarterfinal appearances.

The building may be gone by now, but there are some terrific memories of the old Meadow Hill Inn in the archives of Columbia Magazine, including what Ed described as "Jim's Super Mega Magnum Opus,... a fabulous compilation of sketches of a fabulous era in Adair County History, and a fabulous venue one of the county's greatest ever restaurants, meeting halls, and collection of family businesses: The Meadow Hill Inn."

Brown & Brown of KY to acquire DAI

Brown & Brown of KY, Inc., the subsidiary of Brown & Brown, has announced the acquisition of the assets of Dealer Associates, Inc. According to Yahoo Finance, DAI "has provided a broad range of F&I Products, coupled with F&I, Sales and Service Training, Financial Performance Consulting, and Reinsurance Management Services for Auto Dealers."

Mike Neal, President of Brown & Brown of Kentucky, Inc., says that "this acquisition continues to strengthen our place in this space. As we continue to grow our Brown & Brown Dealer Services team, we are confident that DAI provides a solid base in the Southwest to grow from and adds valuable expertise to the team." Neal also expects the move to "bring more opportunities for our commercial insurance, employee benefits division and personal lines call center in Columbia, Kentucky."

Casey, Cumberland librarians awarded Library Science scholarships

Frankfort, KY - Mary Beth Hogue, with the Casey County Public Library, and Amanda Wheat, with the Cumberland County Public Library, are among the twelve recipients of Spring 2019 Library Science tuition scholarships.

Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet's Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA), in partnership with the Kentucky State Board of Certifications of Librarians, has awarded the Library Science Tuition Scholarship to 12 public library professionals for the spring 2019 semester.

Kentucky law requires public libraries be staffed by personnel certified by the Kentucky State Board for the Certification of Librarians. In an effort to ensure that public libraries are able to meet these requirements, KDLA offers the Library Science Tuition Scholarship to help ensure public library staff are able to meet certification requirements by completing college library science courses.

Hunter Wayne Hedgespeth, 3, Columbia, KY (2015-2018)

Hunter Wayne Hedgespeth passed away Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at the Norton Children's Hospital in Louisville, KY. He was 3 years old.

The funeral service will be at Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home, 209 W Court St, Greensburg, KY, at 1pmCT on Monday, December 10, 2018. Rev. Clifton Sullivan will officiate. Burial will follow in Whickerville Cemetery

Visitation is requested after 2pmCT on Sunday, December 9, 2018 and after 7amCT on Monday, December 10, 2018.

It's currently 36F at the Adair County Mesonet station, and it's not likely to get very much warmer, with an expected high near 38F. It will be mostly cloudy today, with a north wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the morning.

Saturday should be mostly cloudy again, with a high near 38F. Northeast wind 6 to 9 mph. Snow is likely on Saturday night, mainly after midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 30. Northeast wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible by Sunday morning, with the possibility of another inch on Sunday.
