Execution of Search Warrant leads to arrests

NOTE: An arrest is not a finding of guilt. An individual placed under arrest is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

By Tpr. Nick Hale

On December 4th, 2018, at approximately 11:30pmCT, Troopers from Post 15 arrived at a residence located five miles north of Columbia on Slick Rock West Rd to assist the Adair County Sheriff's Department and Columbia Police Department attempt to locate a possible endangered juvenile.

The homeowner, 34 year old William Corbin of Columbia, refused to allow units to search his residence, resulting in a search warrant being obtained. Upon entering the residence at approximately 3:23amCT, Troopers John Carlock and Levi Scott encountered Corbin, who became very combative. Following a short altercation Corbin was placed under arrest. Corbin's girlfriend, Alicia Burton, age 22, of Columbia, was also placed under arrest for assaulting units.

The residence was searched resulting in the juvenile being located. Trooper Levi Scott charged Corbin with assault 3rd, resisting arrest and menacing. Deputy Joey Keith charged Corbin with custodial interference, assault 3rd and obstructing governmental operations. Burton was charged with custodial interference, assault 3rd, and menacing.

Both subjects were lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail.

Letter: agrees on danger of intersection

By Diane R Wallace

Mr. Waggener has expressed what has been on my own mind for awhile now. That intersection is one of my regular commutes and if I had a dollar for each time someone ran the red light I would be one rich lady!

The round-about at the square is dangerous as well. This is especially true of vehicles entering from Jamestown and Greensburg Streets. The definition of YIELD seems to be beyond understanding, especially to a certain black Nissan SUV.

Commentary: Drivers beware

By Ralph Waggener

I was setting on 206 at the intersection of 55N and when the light finally turned green I started to go, but looked to my right and a small black car was traveling at least 55 or 60 miles per hour and I stopped, she never look my way and did not look like she was on a cell phone.

Later, going through this same light, I got part of the way out onto 55 and a truck not going very fast pulled on into the junction, he did stop but as I passed he headed on through the red light. William Grider, my son-in-law, was behind him, and said he had done the same thing at the light in front of Grissom Martin Funeral Home!

So if you have the right-of-way, you still need to watch very closely when you are driving in Columbia or for that matter anywhere, it's darn too dangerous to be on our highways anymore!
