GSE Applications Now Being Accepted

Participants should apply for summer 2019 program by Jan. 20, 2019.

Frankfort, KY - The next session of the Governor's School for Entrepreneurs (GSE) will take place June 23 through July 13, 2019 at Northern Kentucky University. Students currently in 9th, 10th and 11th grade can apply at www.KentuckyGSE.com.

Applications are due by Jan. 20, 2019 and selections will be announced in April 2019. Students who attend GSE can earn high school class credits, scholarships to Kentucky colleges and universities and receive access to the tools necessary to start their own businesses.

Student-Faculty Game Brings the College Community Together

Lindsey Wilson College students, faculty and college administrators hit the court for a little friendly competition, fun and a good cause on Thursday evening.

The second-annual Lindsey Wilson student-faculty & staff basketball game was held in Biggers Sports Center in front of an energetic crowd of nearly 400 students and onlookers.

Call for Local Artists

The Adair County Arts Council is awarding $100 each to five Adair County Artists to help facilitate attendance to the Kentucky Arts Council Creative Summit, November 30, 2018 at the Georgetown College Conference Center, 100 Crawford Dr., Georgetown, KY.

Area artists in all disciplines who are interested in attending should complete the application on the official Kentucky Arts Council page.

Three more days to reach OCC goal

The total of OCC shoeboxes collected at the end of the day Friday is 2001. Churches, organizations, and individuals have three more days to participate in this year's Operation Christmas Child shoe box drive.

Drop off hours are:
  • Saturday 9amCT to 11amCT
  • Sunday 2pmCT to 4pmCT
  • Monday 9amCT to 11amCT
The goal for Adair County is 3600 shoebox gifts. The Adair County central drop off location will be located at the Columbia First Church of the Nazarene Wheet Fellowship Building, 1200 Jamestown St., Columbia, KY 42728.

James E. Means, 89, Windsor, KY (1929-2018)

He was a farmer and an avid sportsman. He especially enjoyed fishing. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Thelma Pitman Means, who passed away October 14, 1984, and one sister Mildred Phillips.

James E. Means of Windsor, KY, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018 in Pulaski County, KY. He was 89 years of age.

Funeral Services are 1pmCT/2pmET Monday, November 19, 2018, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home in Liberty with Brother Hershel Lawhorn officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held 3-5pmCT/4-6pmET Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Ed Gorin, 70, Taylor County, KY (1948-2018)

He loved the Lord and was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church in Black Gnat. He served as Deacon, Treasurer and Sunday School teacher of the adult men's class. He was a magistrate in the fifth district for sixteen years. worked at Fruit of the Loom for twenty seven and one-half years. He drove a school bus in Green County and worked in the cafeteria at Taylor County High School. He farmed and raised Black Angus cattle and was a member of the Taylor County Cattlemen's Association.

Edward R. "Ed" Gorin of Campbellsville, son of the late T.J. Gorin, Jr. and Hazel Robertson Gorin, departed this life at 12:43 P.M., Thursday, November 15, in Clarksville, IN at the Wedgewood Rehab and Nursing Facility. Age: 70 The funeral will be held at 1pmCT/2pmET Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home by Dr. James E. Jones, Bro. Larry Rowell and Richard Phillips. Visitation will be from 3-7pmCT/4-8pmET Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greensburg City Cemetery.

Gov. Bevin recognizes the sacrifice of a KY soldier

Pvt. Robert J. Sipes Jr., of Irvington, was killed in action in November 1950.

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Matt Bevin today recognized the sacrifice of a Kentucky soldier who died in the Korean War, but whose remains have just been positively identified and are in the process of being returned to his family in Irvington.

Army Pvt. Robert J. Sipes, Jr., 19, died on Nov. 30, 1950, was accounted for on Oct. 23, 2018, and will be buried in his hometown on December 5, 2018.

Lindsey Wilson is set to tip off against Philander Smith on Friday, November 16 at 5pmCT and will face Oakwood at 6pmCT on Saturday, November 17.

Video: ACES Storymaker



This Veterans Day video was created by two ACES fifth graders, 10-year-olds Natalie Bardin and Gabby Kemp, and it was shown last night at the regular meeting of the Adair County Board of Education. It will be featured at the upcoming Veterans program Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 12:30pmCT at the school. They shared how they made the video and skills they gained from the experience.

Adair County Board of Education meeting report

Adair County School board, in executive session with all members present except for Michael Payne, voted unanimously to expel the two students who received disciplinary action for their Halloween social media postings. The students will, however, have services provided to them from the school system so that they are able to have seamless educations.

In the regular school board meeting, the pledge of allegiance was led by Adair County Elementary School fifth grade students Natalie Bardin and Gabby Kemp. They were present to show their accomplishments in the field of animation.

I65 southbound at the KY-TN line will be one lane Friday

Bowling Green, KY - Interstate 65 in the southbound direction will be down to one lane at the Kentucky/Tennessee line today as TDOT makes emergency pavement repairs in their construction zone. Traffic is expected to slow down significantly and back up into Kentucky.

The repairs are scheduled to take place from 9amCT to 3pmCT today. Motorists should use caution and expect delays while traveling in this area. Motorists should also be aware of slowed or stopped traffic as well as approaching vehicles from behind.

KY Executive order prohibits boycott of Israel in state contracts

Bevin today joined Israeli Ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer, Consul General of Israel to the Southeast United States Judith Varnai Shorer, State Representative Tim Moore, and representatives from the Jewish Community Relations Council and Christians United for Israel to sign an executive order prohibiting state contracts with companies that participate in boycott, divestment, and sanction (BDS) practices against Israel.

Adair & Russell schools on regular schedule Friday, 16 Nov 2018

David Jones, Transportation Director & Maintenance Director, called to say he has been driving the roads this morning and made the decision that school will be on regular schedule today in Adair County.

He said he has also talked with Russell County and they are also on regular schedule.

While the first snowfall came yesterday afternoon, road crews were out in force overnight icing the roadways so that by this morning, with temperatures heading into the 40s today and full sun promised, roads appear in acceptable condition.
