Remembering Ed Waggener: JIM always associates with laughter I'll forever associate Ed and laughter, and likely nothing I ever sent CM elicited more laughter from him than a 1947 classified ad that began... "NOTICE: Absolutely no more baptizing in my cow pasture...." - JIM Linda, I can't begin to imagine. There's little Libby & I can offer you except hugs from afar and love from our hearts, but those come in great abundance. The last time I saw Ed was October 2017 when I breezed into Columbia for a few hours on Saturday of Downtown Days. We had breakfast at Moore's, talking non-stop -- imagine that! -- and then made a lap or two around the square, stopping to talk to any number of folks, including Joey White and Shannon Sexton. Ed obviously was in his element, enjoying the crowd, enjoying the sights and sounds, and taking in everything with his reporter's eyes and ears and heart. Remembering Ed Waggener: Three eloquent sentences By Jim When Ed's kinsman, business partner, and long time friend R.R. "Pete" Walker passed in 1973, Mr. Gordon Crump, then editor of the Adair County News, wrote a moving tribute to his fellow newspaper man, a tribute that ended with three eloquent sentences: "[Pete] sought but little for himself, but much for the Adair Countians he loved.Mr. Crump's words ring equally true of Ed. --Jim 2018-09-29 07:16:55 | Comments | Printable version
Bingo for Books and Walk to Read a success at ACPC By Laura Marcum On Thursday, September 20, 2018, students at ACPC were encouraged to bring their grandparents or grand person to our Bingo for Books and Walk to Read event. There was quite a bit of activity going on between different rooms in our building. Students and their guest could go to the cafeteria to play bingo and win books. Then they were encouraged to walk laps in the gym to earn books as well. Students and their guest had a chance to win up to 5 books during the event. That is a great way to add to your home library. Be on the lookout for more family fun activity nights. This event was sponsored by the Adair County Primary Center Title 1, 21st Century Camp Casey, the Family Resource Center and the W.A.T.C.H. Coalition. 2018-09-29 07:13:39 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Education Birthdays and Anniversaries for September 29 Happy Anniversary, Creon and Betty Melson (1962) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, David and Margaret Harden | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Anniversary, Tony and Marian Grant (1996) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Amanda Pepper | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Anissa Russell | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Billy Cowan | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Brody Zane | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Cassy Barnett | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Christopher Ingerman (1967) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy birthday, DJ Rooks | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Fischer Brown (2012) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Josh Harden (1981) | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Josie Rae | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Lisa Cooper | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Lisa Pickett | (Updates/Corrections) Happy Birthday, Madison K.
