KET celebrates its 50th anniversary By Cheryl Truman, Lexington Herald-Leader Original URL: kentucky.com/entertainment/tv/article218664085.html The day of Kentucky Educational Television's unveiling flickers on the screen, and there is the late Gov. Louie Nunn (1924-2004) speaking in 1969 at the dedication ceremony of the network. He refers to television as a "space-age communication device." Leonard Press -- a man who had taught broadcasting at the University of Kentucky using "cameras" made of beer boxes using cans as "lenses" -- envisioned and fought for. Remembering Ed Waggener: Thank you for all your gifts By Ben Arnold Thank you Ed for so many things and all your gifts to so many. Our community has a hole, a hole that no one will be able to fill. A heavy sadness hangs everywhere I go, the community trying to digest this great disappointment. One of the things I have noticed is how each person seems to have unique and individual memories. Ed approached all of us from where we were, not where he was. I suspect each of us though we had a special connection with Ed. I so frequently dropped in at Ed and Linda's house, even though I don't like drop-ins myself. We would laugh about it and then always, always have a most interesting conversation. I would often say, "I came for some inspiration or to learn a new thought". I always left with something of value; motivation for another drop-in.
