He was raised in Greensburg, KY, with six siblings. Steve proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Marine Corps. Billy Joe Fudge comments on Kayakers

Billy Joe Fudge writes:
I’ve been biting my tongue for a long time. There is something I've been holding inside for a l-o-n-g time. I can hear snickering critics invoking Archie Campbell, Junior Samples, Grandpa Jones and other Hee Haw lords to legitimize their criticisms. Yet, I cannot restrain myself any longer. I must be true to myself, so here goes. "Kayakers are laid back!" - Billy Joe Fudge-
