Fentanyl killed 763 people in KY - more than heroin

Fatal overdoses from all drugs skyrocketed across the Commonwealth by more than 11 percent from 2016 to 2017, taking 1,565 lives, according to an annual report released Wednesday by the Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy.

LOUISVILLE, KY - (Wed 25 Jul 2018) - Fentanyl, a dangerous drug cartels and drug dealers sneak into heroin and even pills, contributed to 763 deaths across Kentucky last year -- more than double the deaths linked to heroin.

Three other drugs also contributed to more deaths than heroin, including crystal methamphetamines, so pure now they're called "ice," according to the cases where toxicology tests were performed.

Helen dedicated more than forty-five years working first as a certified nurse assistant at Metzmeier Nursing Home and then later at Grandview Nursing Home as a medical technologist and restorative care specialist. Her family and her patients were her passion.

Disabled placard changes coming this fall to curb fraud


In 2009, Kentucky stopped charging for additional placards; and in one year, the number of placards issued surged from nearly 32,000 to more than 209,000. 'Charging a fee for additional placards and linking placards to individuals, not vehicles, are steps we hope will cut down on the number of placards issued and help disabled populations find designated spots' - REP JERRY T. FRANKFORT, KY (27 Jul 2018) - Significant improvements are coming this fall to Kentucky's familiar blue and red disabled parking placards, aimed at improving parking access for disabled populations and curbing potential fraudulent use. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Division of Motor Vehicle Licensing is working to implement software system, design and operational changes for the production and issuance of disabled placards statewide set in motion by House Bill 81. Kentuckians can expect to see program changes launch September 17 at County Clerk offices across the state.

CHS volleyball team hosts camp for 3rd through 8th graders

Campbellsville High School volleyball team recently hosted a camp for students in third through eighth grades. About 10 campers participated, along with the CHS volleyball team.

Campers included Campbellsville Middle School eighth-grader BreAnna Humphress, seventh-graders Chloe Thompson and Ava Hughes, sixth-grader Anna Floyd, Campbellsville Elementary School fifth-grader Kennedy Griffiths, second-grader Lillie Judd and first-grader Remi Petett. Also attending the camp were Braelynn Price and Karsyn Smith.

Adair Fiscal Court Special Session 27 Jul 2018 - REPORT

In the only split vote, 5-2, court approves $1 per hour extra pay for 'bridge workers'. A note: Magistrate Sammy Baker, who championed the bonus, said he has been told that Adair County is the only county in the state which builds it's own county road bridges, a great money saver, he said.

In an approximately hour long session, Friday morning, the Adair County Fiscal Court completed a number of major items, including giving the workers on the Rollen Coomer Road Bridge Project additional pay, authorizing the county attorney to draft a contract with Chris Bennett as local electrical inspector, approving requests for fund transfers from Treasurer Melinda Quinn, authorizing completion of paperwork on RMA (rubber modified asphalt) grant, gave the go-ahead to advertise for home incarceration project, agreed to require all county road department employees to have CDL, and okayed a negotiated rent increase on a county-owned building.

Elma Dick Ponser, 96, Science Hill, KY (1921-2018)

She and her husband lived in four different countries. They lived in Afghanistan, Algeria, Indonesia and Singapore. She was seamstress and owner of Needle & Thread. She was a member of the Science Hill United Methodist Church and accepted Christ at an early age. She was also a member of the Science Hill Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Robert Ponser and one sister, Mafre Eldridge.

KSP partners with state agencies to enforce 'move over' law

Kentucky passed a law* in 2003 requiring motorists to move to the adjacent lane when approaching an emergency or public safety vehicle. If it's impossible or unsafe to change lanes, motorists must slow down and use caution. State police say failure to comply can result in fines, jail time or both.

Eastern KY school board sets own minimum wage - $10/hr

The Floyd County Board of Education approved what Finance Director Matt Wireman called "our own minimum wage" for classified employees this week. During its July 23 meeting, the board unanimously approved increasing the minimum salaries of classified employees so that no employee starts out at less than $10 per hour in the district.

LOUISVILLE, KY - (Thu 26 Jul 2018) - United States Attorney Russell M. Coleman announced that the Louisville Federal Grand Jury returned 20 felony indictments charging 23 individuals this month with multiple counts, including firearms violations and possession and distribution of scheduled drugs. These charges continue to be developed through an ongoing partnership of multiple law enforcement agencies to maximize penalties for the most violent repeat offenders as part of the Department of Justice's Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative. This month's federal indictments are in addition to 14 indictments charging 16 individuals this past May and 21 indictments charging 23 individuals this past March totaling 60 PSN defendants so far this calendar year.
