(Ad) Scotty Neat says Thank You to Adair County Voters

2018-05-30 - Adair County, KY - Photo from the candidate.

Adair County:

We greatly appreciate all who took time to help us in any way. Thank you for your overwhelming support and vote of confidence in the Adair County PVA Primary Election.

Many people have worked tirelessly at my side for many long days and nights to help me achieve this goal. I want to thank my wife, Michelle, parents, extended family, and supporters, for all their unconditional love and encouragement. Also, for all of those who voted for me, encouraged others to vote for me, or put a sign on your property for my campaign: THANK YOU.

I'm looking forward to working hard to earn the privilege of being your PVA this fall, and hope to carry this momentum into the general election. It is an honor and a blessing to have this opportunity, and I could have never done this without you. I sincerely appreciate your vote of confidence; thank you once again for putting your trust in me.

I covet your prayers and continued support in the General Election on November 6, 2018.

s/ Scotty Neat

Carol Perkins: Sharing memories of recently razed Edmonton HS

The old building, left almost half-a-century unused and deteriorating, is now gone. The memories Carol Perkins shares live on, and a September 9, 2018 reception is scheduled for all who attended the school to gather and share mementoes and stories.
The next earlier column: Carol Perkins: The Lizard Whistle Story

By Carol Perkins

Edmonton High School was one of the few school buildings of its era still standing in the area. Standing, that is, until a week or so ago. Built in 1923, it consisted of Edmonton students, but then as Summer Shade High School and Center High School closed, these students merged to Edmonton High School, soon outgrowing the building and its name.

In 1958, a new school, appropriately named Metcalfe County High School, opened, leaving the former building for the sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. The white wooden buildings surrounding the old high school continued as the elementary school until around the early part of the 70s. Eventually, some of the individual buildings (most had once been one-room schools) were sold and moved while others were left to deteriorate among the weeds.

Interest in Bruce Wilson organic chewing tobacco continues

Ten years after the story of Bruce Wilson's quest to grow his own organic chewing tobacco, and almost as long as since he abandoned the project because he didn't get the taste right, interest continues. Does anyone know if anyone else has taken up the project? - CM

Joan Snowball writes to inventor Bruce Wilson:
Hello. I would like to thank you for organic chewing tobacco. You are all amazing. I am 72 and I had to quit smoking 3 years ago. Now I chew, and it seems the tobacco is making me dizzy. I have eliminated every thing. I am on an organic raw food diet. I think I can quit the tobacco, but I hope I do not have too. Please tell me how to purchase your chewing tobacco. Thank you so much. Joan - Joan Snowball
Thanks, Joan Snowball Sorry the product is not commercially available. But your letter has made our day. The story is still inspiring. See: Comments re article 24942 Bruce Wilson has organic chewing tobacco crop ready to harvest

Poetry by Robert Stone: Proper words of praise: a sonnet

Proper words of praise: a sonnet for a thirty-third birthday
Poetry by Robert Stone
Much effort have I spent in finding ways
attempting annual remembrances,
refined by hope with proper words of praise,
yourself to honor in resemblances.

Expanding knowledge brings to each new joys,
low pressure loading visions and details
intense with grist without distracting noise,
secured with trust when weighed on friendship's scales.

Extended silences my patience tests
presuming what disasters might have struck,
occluding all that common sense suggests,
wondering when distress will come unstuck.

Enjoin both sunrise walks and sunset hikes,

location separates our loves from likes.
~ Robert Stone, 29 May 2018
