Robby Morrison wants to help with Montgomery Cemetery

Comments re article 97588 William Gimbel Memorial Day 2018 in Joppa KY

Robby Morrison writes:
I would like the contact information for William Gimbel. I, and I imagine my mother and sister, would like to contribute to the markings and upkeep of the Montgomery Cemetery since we are direct descendants of Francis Montgomery and William Hurt. By the way, Francis was an Ensign during the Revolutionary War. Something noteworthy around Memorial Day. -Robby Morrison
Thanks, Robby Morrison - While CM acts as a conduit, we don't have the staff to act as go-betweens, but we'll see what we can do to make the connections. Glad to hear of your noble intentions. - EW

Epicurean Kentuckian: Shannon Sexton updates on Black Stallion

Shannon Sexton writes:
I spoke with Judge Stephens this afternoon in regards to the Black Stallion opening. Furniture and fixtures are going in place soon. The restaurant owners hope to open in a couple weeks as long as the finishing touches stay on schedule. The sister restaurant by the same name in Monticello does have a salad bar and it's excellent. I assume this one will be no different but have not had the chance to ask the owners directly. --Shannon Sexton

Joyce Coomer guesses JIM is from Pellyton area

Joyce M. Coomer writes:
Who is JIM? He has to be from Pellyton area or he wouldn't've known about Garnett. Letho (Garnett's mother) was one of Momma's best friends.

Also, was Mr. Doss the Pellyton correspondent for Adair County News at that time? The only ones I remember were Mr. (Jasper) Doss, Daddy and Momma.

I have a letter Garnett wrote Momma - don't think it tells where he was stationed at the time. - Joyce Coomer
Thanks, Joyce Coomer Good points. I think you are right about the Pellyton Correspondents. Great ones. Maybe JIM or his twin history cousin, Mike Watson, or Ann Curtis would know. They seem to be able to keep up with such things better than I. Speaking for them, and me, would love to share a copy of the letter from S1C Charles Austin Garnett, and perhaps you could find a photo of Adair County hero. And, for those who might have missed it, here's a link to his story by JIM: Freedom isn't free: In memory of S1c Charles Austin Garnett (1924-1943). Thanks. - EW

Charles Wade writes:
U S 68 runs through my hometown of Cadiz, KY. But I have lived in Central Kentucky since 1967. I was at Campbellsville United Methodist Church this month for district men's meeting. I am getting too old to travel that far, but it was enjoyable. Receive this publication often from Bill Willis, a friend in Frankfort, who is a native of Adair County. He always puts some remark that makes me respond. He asked if we had ducks like your pictures in Cadiz. I never saw any like that. - Charles Wade

Memorial Day Should Be Every Day - Poem by Tommy Melson

By Tommy Melson
As the sun rises, on this freedom filled day . . . The tears roll from my eyes because I know there was a sacrifice paid . . . Paid for by men and women, with blood, sweat, tears and some the sanctity of their minds . . . So we can live without fear from the insensitive and the unkind... Memorial Day should be everyday and we should hold these people high . . . With love, help, and understanding for those here, and remembrance for those souls that roam the sky . . . Happy Memorial Day forever, for our peace is from your sacrifice. . . .
