John Morris Mardis Sr., Taylor County, KY (1948-2018)

February 19, 1948 ~ May 24, 2018 (Age 70)

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Campbellsville Baptist Church. He retired from Walmart in Campbellsville after 20+ years of service, having spent most of those years working in the electronics department. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, and loved to target shoot. A natural Mr. Fix-it, he enjoyed creating tools or techniques to solve problems. He was the patriarch of a respected family, the son of the late Dr. Richard Earl and Elizabeth (Jacob) Mardis. His wife, Linda K. Kidd Mardis, survives. He leaves one direct living descendant, a son, Johnny Mardis, Jr.

There will be a funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Mardis on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 12pmCT/1pmET, in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Road, Campbellsville, KY. Dr. James Jones will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Brookside Cemetery, 200 Block of W Main St, Campbellsville, KY. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 30, after 9amCT/10amET, until time for the service.

Carl W. Loy, 91 Taylor County, KY (1925-2018)

August 13, 1926 ~ May 26, 2018 (Age 91)

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Mannsville United Methodist Church. Mr. Loy retired from the General Electric plant in Louisville after 30+ years of service. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a veteran of the United States Air Force, a farmer, and a talented bluegrass musician, and had won the Best Banjo Picker at the Sorghum Festival in Springfield. He was the patriarch of a respected family, the son of the late Henry C. & Estill (Gribbins) Loy. His wife of nearly 67 years, Mrs. Helen Marie Mings Loy, survives. He leaves two direct living descendants.

I would also like to suggest that to help downtown businesses, the spaces around the square should be marked Customer Parking, Please instead of Two Hour Parking

Owners and workers of the shops could park in the lots off the square freeing up space for customers. It is an easy jaunt from the various lots for persons working in the stores to park in those lots. Customer parking should be provided to encourage customers to shop.

Routine traffic stop leads to drug arrests in Russell Springs, KY

Four arrested on allegations of drug trafficking marijuana and meth, drug paraphernalia charges, after RCSO Deputy and Canine Unit called in and dog alerted on the vehicle. Two Russell Springs, KY residents, one Albany, KY resident and one from Louisville, KY arrested and lodged in the Russell County Detention Center
NOTE: Arrests and charges are not findings of guilt. An individual charged in an arrest is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

RUSSELL COUNTY, KY (Sun 27 May 2018) - On Saturday, May 26, 2018 at approximately 12:07amCT Trooper Billy Begley conducted a routine traffic stop on a 2001 Pontiac on Main Street in Russell Springs, KY.

After noticing the driver and passengers were acting suspicious, Tpr. Begley requested that the Russell County Sheriffs Office come to assist.

ACHS Baseball Tribe heads to 5th Regional Tournament

The Adair County Baseball Tribe will be rolling out to Elizabethtown on Monday morning, May 28, 2018, to play in the 5th Region Tournament. They are scheduled to play Washington County at 10amCT at John Hardin High School, 384 WA Jenkins Road, just off Hwy 31W, a couple of miles or so past the Towne Mall.

Travel with us and support our young men while enjoying some great baseball on Memorial Day. The Tribe anticipates a competitive game and would appreciate a strong Adair County fan base in the bleachers.

Five officers honored at KY Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony

Harsh realities: Police officer widow Amy Ellis, Bardstown gave a moving reminder of the unspeakable tragedy which shattered her life: "I have spent the past five years trying to crawl out of the fog and PTSD from my husband being murdered. . . These are the harsh realities of being a police officer widow. Our husbands swore an oath, but it was us who have made the sacrifices to make it possible," she said. Justice and Public Safety Cabinet Secretary John Tilley served as keynote speaker. The name of Louisville Metro Police Officer Nicholas Rodman, who died March 29, 2017, was added to the memorial. Additionally, Louisville Police Officer James Harrison, Clarkson Police Officer John Skaggs, Salyersville Police Officer Lewis Marshall and Kentucky State Police Trooper David Gibbs (Post 15, Columbia, KY) also were honored among their family, friends and comrades.

RICHMOND, KY (25 May 2018) - "At 31 years old, my world was shattered," said Amy Ellis, widow of Bardstown Police Officer Jason Ellis, who was killed in the line of duty five years ago today. "We lost all our hopes and dreams. I was terrified and angry."

Amy Ellis spoke Thursday during the Kentucky Law Enforcement Memorial ceremony, which honored the lives of five Kentucky officers who died in the line of duty. Ellis told the gathered crowd that she spoke to memorialize her husband - not just as an officer - but as the devoted, loving father and husband he was to her and their two sons.

After winning the long jump national title yesterday, Mosheleketi out-jumped the field in today's triple jump. The national title is Mosheleketi's third of his career. He also won the outdoor track & field triple jump title last season to go along with his two titles this season.

Bright captured the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.68 seconds. She broke the tape just in front of Southern-New Orleans' (LA) Argyana Bolton's 11.72. Bolton had the fastest qualifying time on Friday.

EASLEY, SC (Sat 26 May 2018) - The Campbellsville baseball team won the program's first-ever NCCAA National Championship with a 7-6 victory over Warner University on Saturday afternoon at J.B. "Red" Owens Sports Complex.

After finishing as the runner-up in the NCCAA World Series the past two seasons, the Tigers finally broke through with their first championship following the win over the Royals.
