News from Gov. Matt Bevin's Communications Office

FRANKFORT, KY (Fri 26 Jan 2018) - AgTech Scientific plans to create 271 jobs at a new hemp-products development and manufacturing center in Paris as it forges relationships with Kentucky farmers and partners on research projects with the state's flagship university, Gov. Matt Bevin announced today.

"AgTech's plans for Bourbon County put the company at the forefront of realizing Kentucky's potential as an international leader in hemp production," said Gov. Bevin. "The fact that their business plan includes groundbreaking research being performed at the University of Kentucky and mutually beneficial partnerships with our state's farmers holds exciting possibilities for both industrial and agricultural hemp. This would not have been possible without last year's efforts to better align state law with federal guidelines, which ensure hemp is grown and processed with the utmost transparency and under strict law enforcement supervision."

Maury Lewis: Open to looking at combining counties

Maury Lewis writes:
I think we need some pros and cons list to look at and study and think about to see if it would move us forward or if it would hurt us.

I know some of you are saying you were not raised here you don't count. I moved here when I was 59 years old and I turn 72 this year so It looks like I am here to stay.

I would like to see a larger airport closer. I don't know if that might be possible if several could become one. - Maury

Elections 1898-1899: Political upheaval in Roley - Jim

How free land out west created a political tsunami in the Roley community

By JIM

(Excerpted from a newsletter written by Milburn "M.V." Wolford and published in the February 26, 1958 edition of the Adair County News.) There are a lot of historical events that have happened on Casey Creek and many things are interesting to think about, for instance in 1898 and 1899 when free land was being opened up in the Okla. Ter. I have heard the precinct workers for both parties discuss how the Roley Community had 28 voters who left for Okla. and all were Democrats, but in turn we had 23 or 24 voters who moved in from Jackson Co. and Laurel Co. and Rockcastle Co., and all of them were Republicans, changing the picture of the precinct quite a lot. Of course that was when there was only two voting precincts north of Green River, one between Roley and Knifley, the other at Pellyton.
