Reader takes issue with term 'reluctant' for Mama Llama By Linda Waggener (with a promise to enroll Ed in lessons on how to improve his communications with llamas) A casual ColumbiaMagazine.com photo taken of a llama minding her own business in her pasture with a reference to her being 'reluctant' got the following response about the llama owner from her sister who knows the facts. Ed Waggener, the photographer, originally wrote this observation under the photo of the llama in the distance, "Despite repeated requests, this llama declined to face the camera - or was just busy enjoying supper in this pasture alongside Pelham Branch Road." And the heading above the photo said, "Reluctant llama." FRANKFORT, KY - (Thu 31 Aug 2017) - Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) will activate its State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) in support of the remnants of Hurricane Harvey that will cross over the Commonwealth later today. The SEOC will activate at 4pmET today, 31 Aug 2017, at a Level 4, which consists of personnel monitoring the weather system. The remnants will bring periods of widespread, moderate to heavy rainfall Thursday evening through Friday. Swedish Match to expand Owensboro operation Company will invest nearly $41 million in new production space, create 36 jobs By Woody Maglinger/Jack Mazurak Frankfort, KY - Swedish Match, a smokeless tobacco products manufacturer, will add to its Owensboro production facility with a more than $40.9 million investment and create 36 full-time jobs, Gov. Matt Bevin announced today. The company's investment will cover the buildout of a 16,000-square-foot production area for ZYN, a smokeless and spitless tobacco-derived nicotine pouch. The investment will also bring a 34,000-square-foot expansion of its current facility and the purchase of new equipment. Fleming County brothers to pay $20,000 for poaching By Mark Marraccini Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Frankfort, KY - Two Fleming County brothers facing hundreds of illegal hunting charges entered guilty pleas and agreed to pay more than $20,000 in fines, restitution and court costs, serve time in home incarceration and lose their hunting privileges for three years. Larry Fryman, 69, and his brother, Danny Fryman, 63, entered guilty pleas to their charges Aug. 17 in Fleming District Court. Larry Fryman's convictions included 115 counts of illegally taking a deer or turkey, and one count of terroristic threatening. Become an Outdoors-Woman This September Registration for the annual Kentucky Becoming an Outdoors-Woman workshop in September is now open. The weekend program is designed for women 18 and older who want to learn more about the outdoors and develop a variety of outdoor skills, including hunting and fishing. The event is Sept. 15-17 at Camp Robert C. Webb on Grayson Lake. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources sponsors the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program, which more than 3,000 women have attended since it began. Classes offered include basic hunting, advanced fishing, basic rifle use, introduction to crossbows and more. Four classes are included with registration along with meals and lodging at the conservation camp. Participants may also bring their own tent and camp, or stay at a local hotel.
