Washington Co. fatal collision takes life of 25-year-old driver

Operator of an eastbound 2003 Toyota Corolla on KY 152 when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed the westbound lane, left the roadway and struck an embankment and tree. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 20 year old passenger was taken to Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville, KY

Donald David Gray, Cumberland Co., KY (1934-2017)

He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and an assembly worker for Chevrolet Truck Division of General Motors Corporation. He was a native of Clinch Port, VA, and a resident of Peytonsburg, KY, at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Harry & Nell Falin Gray. He was the widower of Selena Maydene Long Gray. He leaves two direct living descendants.

The family will receive friends after 11amCT on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Norris-New Funeral Home until 10amCT on Thursday morning.

The Wizard of a Mother-Daughter bond

Amy Elizabeth Smith Waggener wrote over the weekend that she was introducing her favorite movie of all time, the 1939 movie, The Wizard of Oz, to her five-year-old daughter Hailey Elizabeth Waggener.

She reported later that the critique was very positive, as a matter of fact in Emoji speak, Hailey's critique was heart, heart, heart, smiley face joy, smiley face joyful tears, cheers and more hearts.

A resurfacing project will begin Tuesday (August 1st) along US 68 in Taylor County. This work will take place from the Green/Taylor County Line (Mile Point 0) to June Drive (Mile Point 3.79). Milling operations will be followed by paving of the section.

Mr. Eugene Peavley, 77, Casey County, KY (1939-2017)

He was a farmer. He was a native of Liberty, KY, and a resident of Danville, KY, at the time of his death. With his passing, one brother survives among his five siblings, James Garnett Peavley, of the six children born to his parents, the late Mike & Rena Wilson Peavley.

Many famous family feuds were fought in Kentucky. The most notable was of course the Hatfield's and McCoy's in eastern Kentucky. In southeastern Kentucky the Bakers and the Whites spilled a lot of blood in the Clay County War.

Ag Tag donations soared to nearly $630,000 in 2017

Previous records shattered. Commissioner Quarles praises 'Giving Spirit' of Kentucky farmers. Donations in fiscal 2017 increased by $77,152.59, or nearly 14 percent, over fiscal 2016.

FRANKFORT, KY - (31 Jul; 2017) -- Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles announced today that voluntary "ag tag" donations in the 2017 fiscal year that ended June 30 amounted to $629,865.43, setting a record for the largest amount donated since the program began.

Dr. Adam Wooldridge completes Orthopedic Surgery residency

On Friday, June 30 2017, Adam Wooldridge, MD, MPH, completed Orthopedic Surgery residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, TX.

Adam is a graduate of the University of Kentucky where he completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Bachelor of the Arts in Chemistry. He obtained a combined Doctorate of Medicine and Master of Public Health at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.

AC Regional Jailer hints at big changes one day - 2017-07-24 REPORT

It's way into the future, but Adair County Jailer Joey White suggests Fiscal Court start reviewing need for a 150 bed (200 maximum capacity, all-under-one roof) structure to replace 30-year-old high maintenance current facilities. Downtown location, bypass sites suggested.

The Adair County Fiscal Court Jail Committee received an upbeat report on the financial status but a very sobering analysis of the physical condition of the old facility at its 24 Jul 2017 meeting.

Jailer Joey White told the committee that the Jail is running approximately $130,000 under budget for the year. He reported, however, that there are problems with the elevator which could cost as much a $30,000 to replace. He also reported continued problems with staffing, with, at the time, a shortage of four employees. He reported that he had interviewed five in the past week.
