Veterans get free car wash Tuesday, July 4, 2017

Polly Corbin Stone, 90, Englewood, CO/Adair Co., KY native (1927-2017)

She was the daughter of late Mont Elliot & Maude Isthyl Ford Corbin. She was a member of a prominent, old line Adair County family and the widow of William Severious Stone. She leaves 15 direct living descendants. Her final resting place will be in her native Adair County in Green River Country, at Mt. Carmel Cemetery

Doc Watson cracks elementary H. Hunter Durham photo case

Solution to case should be a snap - for anyone over 131 years old - now, with B-I-G break from leading history sleuth

I do! Well, at least I know a little about this. The photo was taken on the steps of the old Columbia High and Grade School, and has been identified as the seventh and eighth. The teacher was Mrs. Mary Smythe Biggs, known far and wide as one of the best teachers in the region. According to my source, the photo was taken "about" 1923-1924.

James Clyde Pelly, 89, Adair County, KY (1927-2017)

He was a member of Columbia Christian Church, was a retired engineer from the KY Department of Highways, and a farmer. He was an avid coon hunter, University of KY basketball fan, and loved hunting and fishing and his two special dogs, Casey & Nicky. He was the patriarch of a prominent Adair County, KY family. He was the son of the late James Logan & Annie Cornelious Farris Pelly. His wife of 68 years, Louise Stone Pelly, survives. He leaves nine direct and six step living descendants.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Greensburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was a retired Secretary at Kentucky Farm Bureau, Greensburg KY after 26 years; and she was a Greensburg Elementary School Aide. She was a member of the Rod Lowe Post 124 American Legion Auxiliary, Greensburg, KY. She was the daughter of the late Aubrey E. McGinnie & Leland F. Blevins McGinnis. Her husband Harold "Hudge" Hudgins survives. She leaves 19 direct and 3 step living descendants.
