Happy that needle exchange program is coming to Adair Co.

The proven fact is the IV users are going to inject regardless of what they have to do, including sharing needles. . . If we can save one life by providing clean needles, we have a success story. - MARY BARDIN

Personal commentary

I am very glad to hear the needle exchange program passed and will be implemented soon.

I know people say this is encouraging people to use illegal drugs, and they disagree with providing needles.

Remembering Garnett Kessler & Capricious Adair Co. Dairy Day

Dr. Gary Lane was young UK Dairy specialist when he faced off with one of the greatest human milking machines of all time, County Attorney O.A. "Cotton" Durham, in a milking contest. He recalls Garnett Kessler's role in the contest, and his hand in the Attorney Durham's decisive victory that day. 'He (Garnett Kessler) was always having fun,' Dr. Lane remembers fondly, and adds 'RIP my friend.'

General Fund and Road Fund receipts for April 2017

Kentucky General Fund receipts increased 1.7 percent. Road Fund receipts decreased 5.0 percent

By John E. Chilton/Greg Harkenrider

Frankfort, KY - The Office of State Budget Director (OSBD) reported today that April's General Fund receipts rebounded from a disappointing March performance and recorded the seventh positive month out of the first ten months of FY17. Collections grew 1.7 percent compared to April of last year, an increase of $18.7 million. Total revenues for the month were $1,095.8 million, compared to $1,077.1 million received during April 2016. Receipts have now grown 1.3 percent for the first ten months of FY17.

The official enacted budget calls for 2.7 percent revenue growth for the entire fiscal year. To meet the official revenue estimate, receipts must increase 9.7 percent over the last two months of the fiscal year. In April, OSBD economists released an interim revenue estimate in which they called for revenues to grow 1.6 percent in FY17, a shortfall of $113.2 million compared to budgeted levels.

Letter: Telemarketers are causing real problems

Chris Reeder writes:
I wonder how hard the AG office is battling telemarketers and scammers? It is getting out of hand. Now the telemarketers are using local numbers to trick you into answering. This no-call list is worth about as much as last weeks losing lotto ticket. With all the resources and technology available today this should be stopped. I know small businesses have to comply with regulations, but most of these gyms are local owned, small businesses with some guy/gal just tying to make a legitimate living. Telemarketers are causing real problems for people. Maybe if we flood the AG's office with complaints we will see results. --Chris Reeder
