Family fun event scheduled at Blair Park 20 May 2017

A special event for families -- Family Fun in The Sun -- is coming up on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 2pm-4pmCT at the Jim Blair Park and Recreation Center, 901 Hudson Street, Columbia, KY.

The event is to introduce new playground equipment plus a Story Walk with a free book for the 1st 40 families, the newest Monarch Way Station for Adair County, and inflatables for kids, hot dogs and drinks.

Marque Hicks pronounced the new playground equipment, "The Boat", a great choice. She was among those who tried it out right after it was installed in April. The new equipment is part of the upgrades at the Jim Blair Park and Recreation Center, 901 Hudson Street, Columbia, KY. A special family event is planned for Saturday afternoon, May 20, 2017 from 2pm-4pmCT.

KY Afield Outdoors: State resort parks for largemouth bass

Frankfort, KY. (May 11, 2017) - The months of May and June make for two of the best for catching largemouth bass. The weather is warm, but not too hot, and the largemouth bass feed heavily as warmer water temperatures increase their desire to eat.

Largemouth bass are one of the most popular sport fish in Kentucky. Two of Kentucky's excellent state resort parks, Barren River Lake State Resort and Lake Barkley State Resort Park, lie on two of the best largemouth bass lakes in our state.

U.S. District Court, Western District of Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - United States Attorney John E. Kuhn, Jr., today announced the grand jury indictment of two Louisville convicted felons - one charged with threatening to kill a Louisville Metro Police Officer while engaged in the performance of his official duties - and both defendants were charged with firearm violations. These charges result from an investigation by Louisville Metro Intel (LM Intel): an intelligence-led task force which identifies serious, violent offenders and leverages all available resources to investigate, apprehend and prosecute these offenders. The LM Intel Joint Task Force was announce in January of 2017, and includes the United States Attorney's Office, federal investigative agencies, state prosecutors and Louisville Metro Police.

KSP announces new hiring guidelines for State Troopers

FRANKFORT, KY (11 May 2017) - The Kentucky State Police will now be able to accept more applications than ever thanks to new hiring qualifications established by the legislature. Anyone who possesses a high school diploma or GED and has three years of work experience now qualifies to apply for employment as a Kentucky State Trooper.

Garnett Kessler, 92, Adair County, KY (1924-2017)

He was the patriarch of a leading Northwest Adair County, KY, family. He a native of Adair County, KY, and a resident of the Portland Community of Adair County, KY, at the time of her death. He was a member of Pickett's Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a retired farmer, and he and his family regularly brought honor to Adair County with their award winning Kessler Jerseys. He supported dairying as a longtime member of the American Jersey Cattle Association. He operated Kessler's Grocery with his wife, for the people of the Portland Community for many years.

COLUMBIA, Ky. - The NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round pairings were released on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, evening by the NAIA office. Lindsey Wilson earned the No. 1 seed in the Columbia (KY) Bracket and will host second-seeded Corban (OR), third-seeded Taylor (IN) and fourth-seeded Madonna (MI). The double-elimination Opening Round bracket of games is set to be played May 15-17, 2017 (Times TBA) at Marilyn D. Sparks Park, in the Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex, 928 Russell Road, Columbia, KY. It marks the fifth season in a row Lindsey Wilson has served as an Opening Round host institution. Lindsey Wilson has been tabbed a No. 1 seed for the third season in a row. The Blue Raiders have won their Opening Round bracket twice in the previous four years.

"Have you got the right night?" "Don't forget we have to have an airport shuttle to the hotel, so be sure you pick one that offers a shuttle. Does it have a restaurant? We'll need a restaurant."
