Mother's Day has always been a problem for me

The writer of this article is a published author from Louisville who was honored in the following comment, "I don't recommend spending a lot of time with a physical impairment as a way to gain new insights, but if life brings a disability our way we might as well learn from it. For the majority of folks who have never dealt with a disability, there are other ways to learn. One avenue is to read Cass Irvin's excellent book, Home Bound, Growing Up with a Disability in America. I commend this book to you; an encounter with it may cause the scales to fall from your eyes as you see the world in a new way." -- Louisville pastor Rev. Joey N. Welsh

Mother's Day has always been a problem for me.

By Cass Irvin, Louisville author

My birthday comes about week before Mother's Day. If someone gave me money for my birthday I would have to use it for a present for my mom. I know that sounds childish--but I was a child when I had this realization.

By my 30s I realized I had more than one mom so the problem continued. Actually, I have five.

Please accept our sincere sympathies in the loss of your mother. At CM, the credit goes to editor, publisher, writer Ed Waggener for the obituary style. Both Ed and my friend Joan C. McKinney in Campbellsville are two who remain fiercely passionate that an obituary must be written to honor the full, good life of the deceased. I agree, having recently lost my own mother. It was very important to me that she be remembered at her service and in her obituary in her most beautiful and positive light as she made her exit from this life to the next. I'm deeply grateful for your letter. -- Linda Waggener

Students in Cindy Walker's eighth grade advanced reading class traveled to Louisville last month to deliver handmade blankets to Norton Children's Hospital, after reading a book - "Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie" - about a child battling cancer.

Inspired by the book to help real people in the protagonist's situation, the students made, by hand, more than two dozen blankets to be given to patients at the hospital. "I planned on delivering them myself, but the students wouldn't have it," Walker says. "They said we'll do fundraisers, we'll raise money, but we have to go."

Link: New form of local government coming to Pike County

The Adair Fiscal Court meets at 6pmCT, TONIGHT, Tuesday, May 09, 2017, in the Adair Annex Basement, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY. (AGENDA). Commissioner form of government doesn't start in Fiscal Court, but by petition from the people - so the topic probably won't come up tonight, but many other important matters will. CJE Mike Stephens said on Monday he plans to preside tonight. - EW

By Ed Waggener

With Fiscal Court meeting tonight, and the recently floated idea of the three commissioner form of County Government, there's a timely story about what others are doing. Appalachian News-Express about what the writer calls "an inevitable change in government." See the story at "The Lines Drawn" . (Paywall/Sign Up) It's about events in neighboring Pike County. The trend in Kentucky is toward three Commissioners instead of Magisterial Districts. If anyone has the latest count, or can point us in the right direction to find out, it would be greatly appreciated. By the way, Pike County is the largest county in Kentucky, in terms of area. - EW
