Scenic Russell County, KY: Honeysuckle barn

2017-05-07 - Near Eli, Russell County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com photo(c).
A graying barn by the side of the road near Eli, KY, has so many seasons. Right now, in the rainy season, it has a fabulous display of honeysuckle. In a few weeks, its peak will be adorned with trumpet vine blossoms. As wonderful as the lake scenery is in Russell County, it may never surpass the countryside there all along. Some special elements: The appreciation of Eastern Red Cedars and the care many in Russell County take to show them to their best advantage. And here in the Greater Eli and Ono area, honeysuckle is often seen as a cultivated landscape hedge. And the floral display, not to mention the damp evenings redolent with the vines' magic, aphrodisiacal fragrances is unmatched anywhere else. - EW
