Wayne Baxter: More on American Bald Eagles

Wayne Baxtetr writes:
According to the Departmentt of Fish and Wildlife there was an active Eagle nest on Russell Creek in Adair County last year. Perhaps it was one of that pair. There is also one nest in each of Casey, Cumberland and Taylor Counties. They should be sitting on eggs now if they haven't hatched already. If you are interested in Bald Eagles, check out "Decorah Iowa eagle nest cam." Those hatched within the past week.

Bald Eagles everywhere. One swooped over my car last week on 55 N. between Betty's and Dr. Giles' office. He/she, a majestic adult bird, buzzed my car not 50 feet ahead of me. What a beautiful sight. May have been the same one seen by Billy Joe Fudge, or a brother or sister. --George Kolbenschlag

Concerning the grant to Lindsey Wilson from Kosair Charities

By Robert Flowers

I feel that I was guilty of not giving a good explanation.

The grant money, which is a matching grant, 200,000 Kosair matched by an anonymous donor to purchase equipment of the nursing school.

The equipment to be purchased are simulator mannequins for nurse training and centered on drug patients, particularly innocent infants.

Carol Perkins: On watching the grands' games in person

After traveling to Texas to see the grandchildren play in person, Carol comes to a new conclusion about the practice.
Next earlier Carol Perkins column: Carol Perkins: Camping - ranch style and city style

By Carol Perkins

On our recent trip to Texas, our son Jon, the planner, arranged our visit so we could watch Eme's soccer game, Noah's baseball game, and Luke's lacrosse. My friends with grandchildren follow their sporting events. "I wish ours were closer," I have said to Guy many times. I now know why that would not have been a good idea.

Majestic Bald Eagle does flyover at Green Hills Bridge

Bald Eagle nesting possibility alert

From Billy Joe Fudge

Billy Joe Fudge called in a report of an impressive American Bald Eagle flying at low altitude at a little before 9:30amCT, this Wednesday morning - 5 Apr 2017 - over the Green Hills Bridge this over Russell Creek. It was flying upstream toward the Paddle Trail Launch site at the old Columbia Water Plant. It may have been fishing or, he said, it could have been, at this time of the year, looking to build a nest. Bald Eagles nest are huge, usually in the very top of a tree, and, he said, the nests look as big as a tractor tire. He's hoping that everyone will be on the lookout for this bird, take pictures, and make it a community celebrity.
