Betty Jo Bryant Jarrell, 66, Mt. Pleasant, NC (1950-2016)

Holly Edwards Grimsley shared the news of loss of her Aunt, Betty Jo (Bryant) Jarrell, who is survived by a special uncle and aunt, Lucian and Lottie Edwards of Columbia, along with several cousins. Formerly of Adair County until family relocated to North Carolina in 1965.

The family received friends at Young Memorial Baptist Church, 2635 Highway 49, Concord, NC, prior to the 3pmET, Monday, October 20, 2016, funeral service at the church. Wilkinson's Funeral Home in Concord, NC was in charge of arrangements. Burial is in Cabarrus Memorial Gardens, 3892 Hwy 73 E Concord, NC.

Cumberland Co., KY gets 6th ABC license

Cumberland County's newest ABC licensee is MCM Community Market, 9781 Glasgow Road, Marrowbone. The convenience store was issued an NQ 2 Retail Malt Beverage Package license effective November 1, 2016. Partners in the store are Bikram S. Anand and Kamaljit Kang.

Cumberland County now has five NQ 2 licenses and one small farm winery license.

Amber Godbey, 17, Casey County, KY (1999-2016)

She was a senior at the Casey County High School, a member of Future Business Leader of America, and actively involved with the Casey County Drama Club. Amber was a member of the Bethelridge United Methodist Church and was active in her Youth Group.

Boil water advisory issued 11/1/2016 at 2pmCT

Update: This boil water advisory lifted at 9:35amCT, November 3, 2016

A boil water advisory is in effect for consumers of Columbia Adair Utilities District on:
  • Weed-Keltner Rd.
  • F Akin Rd.
  • Dean Woods Rd.
  • Bennett Ridge
  • Morris Chapel Rd.
  • G Sexton Rd.
  • Shively Parnell Rd.
  • Pickett Mell Rd.
  • Pleasant Ridge Church Rd.
  • Keltnertown Rd.
The advisory has been issued due to a main line leak. Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore this Boil Water Advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure.

Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bring the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using.

The advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality.

Jimmy D. Hammond, Adair Co., KY (1968-2016)

He was a native of Clinton County, KY, and a resident of Adair County, KY, at the time of his death. He was the son of Martha Conner and the late Billy Hammond and the widower of Pamela Hammond. He leaves 13 direct living descendants. His final resting place will be in Russell County, KY, where most of his family reside.

Gov. Bevin announces higher pay for KY road maintenance crews

Over 2,600 Transportation Cabinet employees to receive salary adjustments, amounting to over $31 million per year. Administration hopes to offset with cost savings from lower attrition rate and other areas. Some may see increases of up to $3.20 per hour.

FRANKFORT, KY (Mon 31 Oct 2016) - Kentucky is participating in a three-state effort to test white-tailed deer for the presence of bovine tuberculosis.

While bovine tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that primarily affects cattle, it also can infect deer. The disease has not been detected in Kentucky's deer herd.

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - For the first time in program history, a former Campbellsville University student-athlete has been selected in the NBA D-League Draft.

Dii'jon Allen-Jordan, an NAIA All-American for the Tigers last season, was selected as the 102nd pick in the 2016 NBA D-League Draft on Sunday. Allen-Jordan was selected as the 4th Round's 12th pick by the Los Angeles Defenders - an affiliate of the L.A. Lakers.
