CES prepares for school start Monday 8 Aug 2016

Campbellsville Elementary School teachers and administrators are working hard to prepare for the new school year, which is set to begin on Monday, Aug. 8. Because of ongoing construction at the school, teachers weren’t allowed in the building until all inspections were complete. After gaining access to the building on Tuesday, Aug. 2, CES personnel began cleaning, organizing and setting up their offices and classrooms.

State climatologist documenting impact of July's record rainfall

11 Mesonet stations recorded 15+ inches of rain in July

Bowling Green, KY - State climatologist Stuart Foster spent his day Tuesday traveling across western Kentucky to get a closer look at the impact of July's record-breaking rainfall.

The statewide average for July rainfall is 4.43 inches, but nearly two dozen Kentucky Mesonet at WKU stations recorded more than 10 inches of rainfall in July (including 11 sites with more than 15 inches) and the preliminary Mesonet average was 9.69 inches, said Dr. Foster, who is director of the Mesonet and the Kentucky Climate Center at WKU. The Mesonet has 66 stations in 65 counties.

Taylor Regional Hospital MRI Earns ACR Accreditation

Campbellsville, KY - Taylor Regional Hospital MRI has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). MRI is a noninvasive medical test that utilizes magnetic fields to produce anatomical images of internal body parts to help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.

Beware of Free Ocean Cruise Scam

Frankfort, KY - Attorney General Andy Beshear issued a scam alert today to help Kentuckians avoid being swindled by a free ocean cruise scam.

Kentuckians are reporting a phone call claiming they have won a free cruise. The caller, who often pretends to be a travel agent, says in order to accept the free cruise, the consumer must make a deposit or pay an upfront booking fee. The caller claims the deposit is "no risk" and is fully refundable.

Once the deposit is made, however, the phony agent makes-off with it and never provides the cruise.

Judge Orders Georgetown Cemetery Owner to Repay Customers

Frankfort, KY - Attorney General Andy Beshear today announced his Office of Consumer Protection was granted a default judgment against Crestlawn Cemetery in Scott County and its owner, Dale Shackelford.

Scott County Circuit Judge Paul F. Isaacs ordered the defendants to fulfill all outstanding obligations to consumers or provide full refunds, and to properly register the cemetery and pay the Office of the Attorney General civil penalties.

August is National Immunization Awareness Month

Frankfort, KY - August not only marks the beginning of school in Kentucky, but also National Immunization Awareness Month, highlighting the importance and benefits of immunizations.

"Vaccines are a requirement for school entry and help protect the health of children and that of their classmates and their community," said Dr. Hiram Polk, commissioner, Kentucky Department for Public Health (DPH). "When children are not vaccinated, they could be at risk of disease and can possibly spread diseases to others in their classrooms and community."

Vaccines help protect against serious diseases such as chickenpox, flu (influenza), hepatitis, measles, meningitis, mumps, polio and whooping cough (pertussis). Parents can find out more about providing the best protection by following the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended immunization schedule for persons age birth through 18 years at http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/hcp/child-adolescent.html.

Cumberland Co Extension District cuts ribbon on livestock demonstration facility

Burkesville, KY - Governor's Office of Agricultural Policy staff, Cumberland County Extension District Board Members, local producers and members of the Cumberland County 4-H Agriculture Entrepreneur club cut the ribbon commemorating the opening of the Cumberland County livestock demonstration facility on Wednesday, August 3, 2016.

The Cumberland County Extension District received $5,500 in Cumberland County Agricultural Development Funds to construct the 24' x 24' post-framed building. The new livestock demonstration facility will give Cumberland County youth enrolled in the 4-H Agriculture Entrepreneur club the opportunity to learn about livestock production.

KY Afield Outdoors: Mentor-youth dove hunts great opportunity

Frankfort, KY. (Aug. 4, 2016) - The excitement of an opening day dove hunt when you are young spawns a lifetime of memories. Each year, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources plants dove fields that host mentor-youth hunts to introduce young people to the fun of dove hunting. Sign-ups for these fields begin Monday, Aug. 8.

"Dove hunting is a perfect way to introduce a young person to the hunting experience," said John Brunjes, migratory bird coordinator for Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. "You don't have to sit still or be quiet and it is action packed. You get to shoot a lot and that makes it fun for young people. The warm weather and laid back atmosphere is also appealing to youth."

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Campbellsville University has seen tremendous growth since the beginning of 2016, having the highest spring and summer semester enrollments in the history of the university. Numbers compiled from each education center, dual-enrollment, international, online, traditional and non-traditional students reached all-time highs in spring with 3,433 students and summer with 938 students.

"I'm very pleased to see substantial growth in CU's spring and summer terms," Paula Caldwell, director of admissions, said.

FRANKFORT, KY. (Wed 3 Aug 2016) – Attorney General Andy Beshear and his Cyber Crimes Unit today announced a Breckinridge County man has been arrested and indicted for seeking sex with a minor.

James Leroy Cayton, 37, of Vine Grove, was charged with the prohibited use of an electronic communications system to procure a minor for sex, a Class D felony. He was indicted by a Franklin County grand jury July 19 and arrested by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department July 29 for the warrant associated with the returned indictment.
