Russell Creek under Campbellsville ST impassable due to strainer

Flash flood of 01 Aug 2016 - aftermath
Earlier report, with photos, from last night's flash flood: High water dangerous, drive carefully this evening

By Mike Keltner

Russell Creek under the Campbellsville Street Bridge is impassable due to a collection of logs and brush known as a strainer to paddlers. While strainers are a common thing on Russell Creek this known strainer is dangerous and prohibits passing.

After last nights rainfall the strainer appears that it will remain in place until removal by the KYTC that is already in process. This is a friendly reminder for our creek travelers to plan their trip for safety and tell others of their plan. A float plan app is available free for iPhone from the US Coast Guard.

Strainer: Refers to a tree or tree branches in the current that allow for the water to flow through but that trap a person. They may occur at any place on a river or stream where collecting debris hold. Mike Keltner is Director, Adair Co. Emergency Management, 107 N High Street Columbia, KY 42728
