Billy Joe Fudge on: Head of the Class in The New Yorker Billy Joe Fudge writes: "They need a politics that offers honest answers to their legitimate grievances and keeps them from sliding further into self-destruction." As with any commentary, the one doing the commenting often goes into the disseration with a stricture in place which chokes objectivity by attempting to force a deep and wide subject matter through a too narrow line of thought. Case in point, the insertion of "self-destruction" at the end is an obvious effort to lay blame for the demise of the stability of our culture and the decline of our economic superiority upon white middle-class Americans in spite of the overall tenor of the commentary to the contrary. --Comments re article 83019 Wanna read something heav Link to Head of the Class 2016-05-08 14:06:15 | Comments | Printable version

Joyce Coomer: A lot of truth in The New Yorker article Comments about: Wanna read something heav? Link to - Head of the Class Joyce Coomer writes: Re: The New Yorker article Ed posted a link for -- Head of the Class.. Go to paragraph five ("Identity politics . . .") and read the first three sentences carefully. This is easy to see in action . . . even if said working class members don't mention any resentments or "disturbing" beliefs . . . and even if said working class members aren't even present! I have heard more than one person who considers themselves to be "tolerant" and "caring" make snide and hateful remarks about people they don't even know because they consider working class people to be uneducated and prejudiced . . . even if said working class people are highly intelligent, honorable, hard-working, take care of themselves and their families, and will help anyone who needs help.Amen. - EW 2016-05-08 11:54:19 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Commentary
Creative proofer suggests correction - or a naughty letter switch Comments re article 82562 Fradulent Fire dues collectors reported again today Marsha Walker writes: I'm feeling naughty today. "Fradulent' could have a "u" added, or the "d" could be replaced by a "t." HaHa! A flatulent fire would need firemen! --Marsha WalkerThanks, Marsha Walker: Your suggestions are all great, but we opted for the first one and added a "u." But will admit there was a temptation to take the naughty alternative. Funny, but is it legal to say 'flatulent' on the internet? The first time I ever heard the word "flatulent" was in a skit by famed stand-up comedian Nancy Moran, talking about her boyfriend, "Bilious Billy Button Buster," I think he was called. It was either up at the Grade Center or in the early days of ACHS. I don't remember. But it was the funniest act ever. Anyone know if she went into show biz? - EW 2016-05-08 11:46:34 | Comments | Printable version
