Mayor Hardwick names Ronald Cook second in command Mayor Hardwick originally brought the matter up in a Special Called meeting, but was challenged by Sharon Burton, Publisher of the Adair County Community Voice, after the Mayor said the succession Executive Order was the main reason he had called the meeting. Burton asked if that were the case, why had the item not been on the agenda, since only agenda items can be discussed in a special called meeting. Mayor Hardwick did not proceed with the announcement and adjourned the meeting, and passed copies of the order to the Council Members and the media. By Ed Waggener Columbia Mayor Curtis Hardwick has issued Executive Order No. 2015-02, which delegates to Ronald Cook "the authority and power to perform any and all necessary executive functions, other than the ability to approve ordinances or promulgate regulations, and to hire or terminate employees, for the City of Columbia," should Mayor Hardwick become incapacitated due to health reasons. The order names Ann Austin as an alternate after Cook. Both are City of Columbia employees. The order further gives, in the event of the Mayor's incapacity due to health reasons, "the ability to approve ordinances or promulgate regulations to council member Ron Rogers," with Council Member Craig Lasley as an alternate. The order was signed May 14, 2015 by Curtis Hardwick, Mayor, and Notarized by Ann Austin. 2015-05-14 19:31:57 | Comments | Printable version

KY Afield Outdoors: Choosing the right kayak By: Lee McClellan FRANKFORT, Ky. - The first time I fished a stream out of a kayak, you may have heard the oaths I swore in Tennessee. It was a short, cockpit or sit-in style kayak. I had a hard time controlling its tippy tendencies. After an hour or so, my back began to hurt trying to keep the boat in position to properly fish. I had little room to stow my rod and tackle. I eventually bought a personal pontoon boat for my stream fishing, forsaking a kayak because of this bad experience. It wasn't the kayak's fault, however. It was mine. I was unaware of the differences in styles of kayaks. Secretary Grimes Forecasts Turnout in Primary Election By Lynn Sowards Zellen Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes today projected approximately 10 percent of the 3.1 million people registered to vote in Kentucky will turn out for the May 19, 2015, Primary Election. "After reviewing absentee data provided by our county clerks and historical turnout in similar election cycles, I forecast only approximately one in 10 registered Kentucky voters will cast ballots in Tuesday's Primary Election," Grimes said. "But as the Commonwealth's chief advocate for civic engagement, I am hopeful that as many as are eligible will participate." In 2011, the last election for statewide constitutional officers in Kentucky, 10.35 percent of voters went to the polls for the Primary. 17 percent of the Kentucky electorate voted in the 2003 Primary Election, which is the last time there was not an incumbent candidate for the office of Governor. As of May 11, 2015, 3,388 voters had voted absentee on machines in county clerks' offices and 3,586 absentee ballots had been mailed to voters. Grimes encourages voters to prepare to vote on May 19 by checking their polling places and viewing sample ballots through the Voter Information Center.
