KY Afield Outdoors: Late spring is prime time for catfish

This is the final installment of the "Spring Fishing Fever" series of articles, which detail productive fishing opportunities across Kentucky

By: Kevin Kelly

FRANKFORT, Ky. - A stable weather pattern this week brought an early taste of summer to Kentucky as high temperatures topped 80-degrees on consecutive days.

Warmer weather and water temperatures climbing into the 70s tell catfish that it's time to spawn, and anglers who pursue them know from experience the period from late spring into early summer is prime time.

"The next couple of weeks look good for catfish because they're going to be aggressive and feeding," said Kevin Frey, eastern fisheries district biologist for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

Sharon Whitehurst on Gradyville Odd Bird: Likely an escapee

Settling the issue of the Odd Bird's Identity is more to her liking than the Hot Button issues of these time

Sharon Whitehurst writes:
We have friends in the county who raise some exotic fowls. In seeing Matt and Gina's photos on FB they commented that Diamond Doves are also imported and raised. I suspect an escapee. Not wanting to argue--but any photos I can pull up of Rock Pigeons don't show the particular markings of this bird. With so many 'hot button' topics in the news, discussion to identify a bird or plant is more to my liking! --Sharon Whitehurst

Geo. Kolbenschlag: Great reappointment - Mr. Burns on CACEDA

And the Mayor's praise for the Garden Club and City Street Department was justified, in respect to the downtown beautification. But he thinks lethargy is winning, that City Council needs to be sequestered to face and deal with probems until they do the job they were elected to do

By George Kolbenschlag
Personal commentary

I would like to thank the city council for confirming the mayor's appointment of Randy Burns to the CACEDA and the mayor for mentioning the Garden Club and City Street Department for beautifying the city. Both are commendable.

Much of the rest of their activity, or lack thereof, was not. While several members tried to get some things done, in the end, once again, lethargy won.

Thanks, Sharon Whitehurst: The Distinctive Eyes and Eye Ring certainly look like the pictures of Diamond Doves on the websites. Maybe the jury is still out. Could a Diamond Dove kept as a pet escaped? - EW

Writer supports AC Fire Department decision on fire dues/tax bill

Personal Commentary

Kenny Absher writes:

I am proud of our fire department and there have been some lean years where I could not pay my dues. You provide an appreciated service, volunteering your time, you spend many more hours in training, when you collect for Crusade for Children you give freely from the heart.

I salute your dedication and service to our community. In this day of tax, tax, tax and all studies show the same result that government wastes $0.51 of every tax dollar they collect, your decision impacts a majority of our residents and lives. Thank you, Kenny Absher Cane Valley, KY. - Kenny Absher
