Poetry by Joyce M. Coomer: An elegy for a landmark crepe myrtle

Elegy for a crepe myrtle
Mrs. Marshall's crepe myrtle is no more
Murdered by persons who care not
For the beauty God gave us
Nor the beauty our ancestors treasured

I'll mourn the absence of this bright bloom
In summer's heat
