The alum-de-dum lamp post by the Red Brick Recording studio at the corner of Burkesville Street and the Public Square was sheared the base by the impact of a Campbellsville-bound semi truck coming through the Square on Wednesday evening, 14 Jan 2015. The lamp post appears to have suffered more damage than the trash receptacle. - EW

Collision in S curves on KY 206/Liberty Road claims life

Both occupants ejected from 2004 Toyota SUV. It is unclear as to the driver of the vehicle. One pronounced dead at the at Westlake Regional Hospital; other airlifted to UL, reported to be in critical condition. KSP Tpr. Kenny Brown was assisted at the scene by the Adair County Sheriff's Department, Fire, EMS and Rescue. The investigation is ongoing.

COLUMBIA, KY - (14 Jan 2015, 9:45pmCT) - Tpr. Kenny Brown is investigating a collision that occurred today at approximately 1:42pmCT, 2.5 miles east of Columbia on KY 206. 38-year-old Bryan Harvey, of Columbia and 40-year-old Ina Copley, of Russell Springs were traveling east on KY 206 in a 2004 Toyota SUV.

Semi takes out lamp standard, Burkesville at the Square

Columbia City Police were protecting the area around a lamppost which was clipped at its base by a Campbellsville bound semi at around 9pmCT, Wed 14 Jan 2015.

Ofc. Jordan Dean said that the policeman will limit traffic near the scene until a technician from KU arrives to make repairs.

Fatality/injury single vehicle accident occurs on KY 206

The Big Dawg and The WAVE news team has learned that an accident in the KY 210/Liberty Road, S-curves west of Garlin, KY, has resulted in the death of one person and the other occupant suffering injuries which required airlifting to Louisville, KY. According the information we have received both occupants were ejected from the vehicle. Further information is expected from the Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY. the lead investigators. COLUMBIA, KY - A day after being named the Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Week, freshman Michael Pixley has been named the NAIA National Wrestler of the Week, the national office announced on Wednesday, January 14, 2015.

It is the first national Wrestler of the Week honor this season for the Blue Raiders and fourth in program history after Joe Cozart, Keaton Thomas and Jameel Bryant each received the honor last season

M. Rey Yarberry, Green Co., KY (1929-2015)

He had made a profession of faith in Christ and attended the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church. He was a retired 34 year employee for the Greensburg Bottling Company and was a farmer. Charlene Hancock Taylor, Adair County, KY (1935-2015)

She was a member of a large, highly regarded Adair County, KY, family. She a native of Wayne County, KY, and a resident of Adair County, KY, at the time of her death. She was the daughter of he late Loren E. and Glenna (Hancock) Hancock, and he widow of Alex Richard Taylor. was a member of Beulah Chapel Brethren in Christ Church. She worked at Westlake Regional Hospital for 20 years. She enjoyed reading her Bible, going to church, gardening and spending time with her family. She leaves 26 direct living descendants.

He enjoyed all outdoor activities especially hunting and fishing. He was a native of Iowa City, Iowa, and a resident of Buffalo, KY, at the time of his death.

Beatrice Phipps, 87, Knifley, KY, (1927-2015)

Bea worked for Delco Electronics for 22 years. She was a member of UAW 292. She enjoyed working in her yard and home. She loved to travel to shop for flowers in town and surrounding areas. Bea was a great cook and baker. She was known for her fried chicken and peach cobbler. When she wasn’t cooking for her family, she enjoyed going out to dinner in Rossville to eat catfish. She was a member of Beulah land Church, where she was known as “Aunt Bea”. Bea was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and a very giving person. She was a native of Knifley, KY, the daughter of Ancil and Martha (Mings) Spires and the widow of Cliff Phipps.

Somerset, Ky. - Somerset Community College (SCC) Librarian Mary Taylor Huntsman was recently presented with the 2014 Kentucky Library Association (KLA) Carol J. Parris Mentoring Award.

The KLA Carol J. Parris Mentoring Award is presented to a Kentucky librarian who has been a mentor to a librarian, library worker or library science student.

Huntsman, of Greensburg, KY was nominated for the award by co-worker Julie Howe. Howe serves as the Heath Science and Reference Librarian at SCC in the Learning Commons on the SCC Laurel Campus in London.

32 year old Ricky Greer, of Liletown Road, Greensburg, KY, lost control of his vehicle on US 68 - Edmonton Road, Greensburg, KY - and struck a utility pole near Greasy Creek Baptist Church.

Three sentenced in Harlan Co., KY murder case

Case involves robbery of 58-year-old man inside his Harlan County, KY home; and duct-taping him while items were stolen from his home. In the course of the crime, victim suffocated. Police found victim's body inside his home while doing a welfare check several days later.

We're hearing of black ice resulting in accidents in Green and Taylor Counties already, at 4:56amCT/5:56amET. Responders are investigating an accident on KY 70 at in front of the Elkhorn Baptist Church. Reports are just now coming in this morning.

Reed says, but it's misting and the temperature won't get above freezing till noon. "I'm not taking any chances putting a bunch of Busses on a ice skating rink and risk accidents," he said. "We've already had a fatality accident in a neighboring county. It's precautionary, but we're taking no risks.
