By Peg Schaeffer Winter is the season in which people try to keep the house as warm as it was in the summer, when they complained about the heat. It's been hard just keeping warm It's been a hard job keeping warm this past week. Our first concern is always the animals. The movies, Quick Flick Critique: Get Low Review of a film which has had time to season five years, and thus warrants at first look. With super performances by Robert Duvall, Bill Murray, Sissy Spacek and Lucas Black, among others. Recommended. For even more than that it is about around here, close by in East Tennessee, even though it was filmed entirely in Georgia, according the the Wikipedia Entry, Get Low (film). Adair Countians Mike Voss of Fairplay and Gerry Holt, Little Cake, reviewed a very recent film (2009 - movies ought to be out five years before watching), Get Low, at the coffee house this past week week, giving the film a 100% endorsement. They said it was Robert Duvall at his best, and makes one have a complete new respect for Bill Murray. It's a Depression era film about a hermit (Duvall) in Tennnessee. It's roughly based on the story of a real life character, detailed at On Jordan's Stormy Banks I Stand, the story Uncle Bush, Felix Bushaloo Breazeale of Roane County Tennessee, and an actual funeral for a man not yet dead. The movie is currently on Netflix. The trailer for the film can be seen at IMBD: Trailer, Get Low. The crowd at the funeral was huge. A trip to the site is right close to another huge East Tennesse event, The Scopes trial at Dayton, Rhea County, TN. Having watched one third of the show and 100% of the trailer, I agree with Holt & Voss, and recommend it for your enjoyment. 2015-01-11 09:00:06 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Movies

By Carol Perkins "We need to try something new each year." I don't think I could ever be a Snowbird. Even though warm weather and sunny skies are appealing; I just don't think I could survive even for a few months without cold weather, snowflakes, and family. I used to think that living in a condo overlooking the ocean with nothing to do but read, eat, and relax for the winter would be the life, but I have changed my mind. This is why. Tom Chaney: Crime and Punishment by the Quire Of Writers And Their Books: Crime and Punishment by the Quire. Tom says Bartlett reflects on the sort of affection for books which can lead to a life of biblio-crime. This column first appeared 10 January 2010. The next earlier Tom Chaney column: The Developing Image of God By Tom Chaney Crime and Punishment by the Quire Once in a great while I pick up a book from the true crime shelf here in the Bookstore. I have a certain fascination with the lives of those whose chief claim to fame is theft or murder. The fascination generally runs out long before the book is done. However, I had a gift last birthday of a story of true crime perpetrated on booksellers. Allison Hoover Bartlett has written a story of book stealing that set me to thinking some. The book is The Man Who Loved Books Too Much: The True Story of a Thief, a Detective, and a World of Literary Obsession [Riverhead Books, 2009].
