Mike Akin: How Mana Shoes in Columbia got it's name Comments re article 72231 Nathan D Hale Adair Co KY Russell Co KY native 19342015 Mike Akin writes: I noticed Mana Shoes was spelled incorrectly in the obituary for Nathan Hale. Mana was named after the first two letters of Martha's name and the first two letters of Nathan's name; hence, Mana. I suppose it was also kind of a play on words. - Mike AkinThanks, Mike Akin - The spelling has been changed in the obituary. Thanks for the edit, and thanks for the note on this bit of Columbia, KY, history. Writer gave up on hard stuff; now has decaf, sugarless Ale-8-1 J D Zornes writes: A Late One, a/k/a Ale81, a/k/a Swamp Water, was the Winchester equivalent of Ski. It was highly caffeinated with plenty of sugar. It was not a good drink for small children when traveling, as we learned. At one time it was even safe to drink it in the back of a pickup, obviously without a seat belt on. Now you can have it without caffeine or sugar. The world has changed a bit since my youth and I now drink diet Ale8’s as a reminder of a different time. --J D ZornesComments re photo 58332 Epicurean Kentuckian Ale81 2015-01-02 13:47:15 | Comments | Printable version
