Community comes together to rescue Christmas Dog The dog was chained to the sign at Columbia IGA and had gotten into a precarious situation. But an ad hoc Rescue group - three nurses, the Adair County ball team, who left their breakfast at McDonald's to help by sharing sausage biscuit with the puppy, and Officer Tracy McCarol, who had been dispatched to the scene, extricated the dog from the snarl and took it to the Green River Animal Shelter, where he awaits owner claim or adoption into a forever home. The Rescue Team calls the dog its 'Christmas Dog,' and hope there is a Happy Ending, with its reunion or a chance to go to a new home Click on headline for complete story By Celia Downey This is just a quick comment on the IGA Dog. Joyce Coomer commentary on birds and solar power By Joyce Coomer Commentary Two articles about birds being killed around solar farms . . . - Scientific Amerian: Solar Farms threaten birdsThere is another threat to wildlife and the environment that isn't mentioned in either of these articles - poison in the form of herbicides. Solar power sources are dependent on sunlight so anything that would shade the solar panels has to go. Herbicides are the most likely form of plant control as other methods are time and labor-intensive. Before we blithely embrace any new technology, we need to thoroughly study its effects. - Joyce M.
