KY Afield Outdoors: Late muzzleloader deer season opens Saturday

FRANKFORT, Ky. - Hunters do not have to wait until next fall to harvest a deer with a firearm in Kentucky.

The late muzzleloader season opens statewide on Saturday, Dec. 13. Even before this opening day, the ongoing deer season already rates as one of the state's top three on record based on overall harvest numbers.

Wildlife biologists were bracing for a potential decrease in the harvest this season after consecutive record harvests and with oak trees so laden with acorns this fall. However, the combination of favorable weather during key timeframes and an uptick in hunter participation turned tempered expectations bullish as the season has worn on.

I-65 NB Closed following multiple collisions, LaRue County, KY

Several Semis involved; crash site in construction zone

(Thu 11 Dec 2014, 4:56pmCT) - I-65 is closed northbound ONLY at mile point 77 due to crash involving several semis. Closure will last several hours. Motorists must use exit 76 to US 31W and back to I65. Crash is in a construction zone, making it more difficult to clear the scene. Robert (Bobby) Hazard, Taylor Co., KY (1935-2014)

Bobby was a very hard worker. He loved cars and always kept his clean. He retired from Parker Kalon and was a diehard fan of the University of Louisville Cardinals. He was a native of Taylor County, KY, and was a resident of the county at the time of his death. He was the son of the late David Logan Hazard and Katherine Douglas. His wife, Betty Hazard, survives. He leaves 11 direct living descendants.

William Lee Rodgers, Jr., Casey County, KY (1943-2014)

He worked as a clerk at Roses and Sears and enjoyed fishing. Mr. Rodgers was a Navy veteran and a member of the New Life Tabernacle. He was the son of the late William Lee Rodgers, Sr. and Villa Jane Hendrickson Rodgers. He leaves one direct living descendent.

William Lee Rodgers, Jr. passed away Thursday, November 27, 2014 at his home in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was 71.

Gravesides services are 12:30pmCT/1:30pmET, Monday, December 15, 2014 at Mill Springs National Cemetery, 9044 W. Highway 80, Nancy, KY, with Bro. Bill Hill officiating. There will be no visitation.

He was the son of the late Roy and Bessie Pardue Saltsman. His wife, Robin Saltsman, survives. He leaves 15 direct living descendants. He was of the Methodist faith and retired from GM Corvette Plant and was a US Army Veteran.

Curtis Cravens, Waynesburg, KY (1952-2014)

He was a retired factory worker and a former Fire Chief at the Waynesburg Fire Department Station #5. He loved 4 wheeling and being outdoors. He enjoyed fishing. He was the son of Thelma Rose Shell Cravens, who survives and the late James Merle Cravens. His wife of over 26 years, Aunda Durham Cravens, survives. He leaves seven direct living descendants.

Bendix Spicer Foundation Brake LLC, a leader in commercial vehicle brake and safety systems, unveiled its expanded manufacturing facility. The $8.4 million investment includes implementation of state-of-the art manufacturing technology and supports its substantial new business growth. The facility also has added two additional machining centers and 75 new jobs.
