James Edwin Shirley, 92, Adair Co. KY (1922-2014) He was a 1940 graduate of Columbia High School and 1942 graduate of Lindsey Wilson College. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1946. After training at Ft. Stevens, Oregon and Camp Howze, Texas, he landed in La Havre, France as a replacement soldier after the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. He joined the 106th Infantry Division, 589th Field Artillery Battalion and remained with this division in Belgium and Germany until the war ended. James E. remained in Germany with the allied occupation, until his return to the U.S. for discharge in 1946. James was a faithful member of the Columbia Christian Church, active in the Men for Christ organization, a Kentucky Colonel, and served on the board of directors of several organizations, including: Kentucky and Adair County Cattlemen's Association, Kentucky Farm Bureau, Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, Haven Hill Cemetery and a member of VFW Post 6097. He was also an avid UK basketball fan. Norma Dee Turner, Adair County, KY (1963-2014) She attended the Bloomington Chapel Church and was a former employee of Westlake Regional Hospital. James Michael Wethington, Casey County, KY (1946-2014) He was an Air Force veteran, mechanic, worked on airplane engines, and installed garage doors. He enjoyed life and loved to hunt and fish. He was a native of Casey County, KY, and a resident of the county at the time of his death. He was the son of Juanita Belton Wethington and the late James Oval Wethington. His beloved wife, Glordean Lee Wethington, survives. He leaves seven direct living descendants. Kroger adds 125 Kentucky Proud products at 88 KY stores By Ted Sloan News from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture LOUISVILLE, KY (Fri 7 Nov 2014) - Dozens of Kentucky family farms and small businesses will benefit from a historic partnership between Kentucky Proud and Kroger, Agriculture Commissioner James Comer announced today. Next to a Kentucky Proud display at the Springhurst Kroger supermarket on Brownsboro Road, Commissioner Comer said that Kroger will sell 125 products from 34 Kentucky Proud producers in 88 stores throughout Kentucky. Comer said the initial purchase filled a 10,000-square-foot warehouse and totaled $350,000, a record for a single transaction in the history of Kentucky Proud.
