Writer wants to know if box had to be completely filled in for write in to count Comments re article 70977 Election Nov 2014 Why were some writeins not reported Wendy Janes writes: Hi, Ed, I was just informed that for the write-in votes the blocks were suppose to be colored in completely. That if you just put a check mark the vote was not counted. Is this true? - Wendy JanesThanks, Wendy Janes: There are a lot of questions about how the the votes yesterday were validated. One of the write in candidates, Ben Arnold, has written to us saying, "My interpretation of the statutes would indicate a valid vote is recorded with only my last name written even without a box indication. Yesterday, he was much more concerned about problems at the polls and by problems created by the eligible voter rosters for city voters. He thinks that may have had a signficant, if not a determing, effect on the outcome of the election. He's expected to make a statement later today. 2014-11-06 08:13:41 | Comments | Printable version
(Ad) - To the Voters: Thank you from Jeff Feese, Adair Co. PVA I would like to thank the voters of Adair County, first for coming in such a great number to exercise their right to vote and also for having the confidence in me to give me their vote of approval. It is extremely humbling. I intend on providing the taxpayers with service that they so graciously deserve. We intend on moving forward with the advancements in technology that are available and bringing the same fairness in assessing that they have been receiving for the past 28 + years. My family and I would like for you all to know that the appreciation that we feel is hard to be expressed in simple words, but until I have the opportunity to see you in person I am hopeful this simple Thank You will be enough. - JEFF FEESE, Adair County Property Valuation Administrator 2014-11-06 06:47:12 | Comments | Printable version

Election Nov 2014: Why were some write-ins not reported? Matthew Coomer writes: I am very curious as to why there are names that are not being reported as being voted for. I know I wrote in a few names and so did some of my family and friends, I can only conclude that votes may have been discarded. I think this needs to be investigated. - Matthew CoomerMatt Coomer: Thanks for your letter. The answer may be that election laws on write-ins is very clear: Write in candidates had to register by 24 Oct 2014 in order to be counted. Only Brandon Thompson, for PVA, and Ben Arnold, Candidate for Mayor of Columbia, filed in Adair County. However, because of glitches in the process, somewhat new to Columbia/Adair County, there is expected to be full review of the 2014 write-ins to assure that problems do not occur in the future, as well as to assure that all eligible voters be allowed to vote. 2014-11-06 03:50:29 | Comments | Printable version
