Response to Daryl Branham being p'oed Story below based on p'oed over ESPN use of Big Blue Madness By Carol Shaul That's my friend Daryl and his brother Daryl and his other Brother Daryl, as they used to say in Green Acres. Daryl: the show is called "Midnight Madness." The segment on UK is called "Big Blue Madness." Let me tell you about my friend Daryl Branham: Many years ago, he almost lost his job because he spent too much time on- but was determined to get the back seat out of a van so we could get my Mother's wheelchair in it - to bring her home from the nursing home for Christmas Day. Back then those seats didn't come out easily like they do now. I always have-and always will - love me some Daryl Branham!!!!! - Carol Shaul 2014-10-17 23:05:59 | Comments | Printable version

Roger D Smith DMC - Tax: Deed was going to be done no matter By Roger D Smith DMD Personal Commentary I agree with Dr. Arnold that true openness on the occupational tax would have been to announce the Council's intention prior to the filing date for candidates. I believe more people would have filed. In acting as it did, I believe that the public responses were mute and the deed was going to be done no matter what was said. I don't think Dr. Arnold will be upset in my describing us as "Country Boys" and understands what a few dollars can mean to what a family can and cannot do. I know when I was growing up what it meant to us. Article continues... click title or click here to read whole article. 2014-10-17 19:27:01 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Chamber Insights

Kentucky Afield Outdoors: Spotted bass back in schools this fall This is the third installment of a series of articles titled "Fall Fishing Festival" profiling the productive fishing on Kentucky's lakes, rivers and streams in fall. By: Lee McClellan FRANKFORT, Ky. - They were not even recognized as a distinctive fish species until 1927. People for many years believed these fish only existed in Kentucky. In 1956, the Kentucky legislature designated this species the "Kentucky bass" and made them the official state fish. Many anglers, especially in the south-central portion of the United States, still call the spotted bass a Kentucky bass. They pale in reputation to their black bass cousins, the largemouth and smallmouth bass, but the spunk shown once hooked and their abundance should raise the profile of the overlooked spotted bass. They are also aggressive and readily strike lures. Article continues... click title or click here to read whole article. 2014-10-17 14:27:06 | Comments | Printable version

Small business person gives concern on Payroll Tax These comments was received from a small business owner, whose identity is being withheld to avoid any possible retributions from anyone in authority: "My impression is that the city decided not to ask the certain employers to withhold the tax but still hold those workers responsible for directly paying it. "My own concern is the bookkeeping burdens fall too heavily on small businesses. I wouldn't open a small shop facing the bookkeeping nightmare. I wish they had had an exemption on that."The thoughts are similar to those expressed by other small businesspeople, tradespersons, and others in family business about what they see as their biggest objection, the bookkeeping and accounting costs, and the time many consider will be wasted, all of which will add up to a multiple of the tax they will owe. - CM 2014-10-17 09:53:52 | Comments | Printable version

Billy Joe Fudge: Beauty is everywhere, waiting for us Comments re photo 57097 Scenic Adair Co KY Delightful passages Billy Joe Fudge writes: There is much truth in the saying, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" but I've found that along the avenue of your Mom's thinking that, "Beauty is everywhere and in everything, waiting for us to behold it". On a similar but different subject, my comment to those who lament the speedy passage of time is, "Much of the joy and fullness of living is lost while waiting for that which is perceived to be perfect". --Thanks Billy Joe Fudge.
