Thanks to our hardworking road crew

Victoria Pike writes

A big thank you to the hardworking Kentucky Transportation Cabinet road crews in Adair County for making sure our roads were treated and salted before the ice storm hit this morning. It was smooth sailing after I got upright and in the truck this morning.

They have been out throughout the day as well making sure our main roads are in good shape.

Don't forget to tell them how much they are appreciated next time you see them. Hats off to our Adair County crew. --Victoria Pike

I urge everyone to stay put until ice melts

EDITORIAL

By Victoria Pike
Known Democrat. Chief Correspondent, Greater Bliss, KY

People please stay put inside until the ice melts.

In a fizz to go see if all my cattle were upright, I flew out the door and looked into the great beyond of Greater Bliss and forgot all about the ice until my rear hit the bottom step of our front porch. Plenty of padding in the proper spot prevented a break.

Point of the story, when it looks ok, it really isn't sometimes.

The ice is still there. I did make it to the truck and out to check the girls and all appeared to be upright. Ice, please melt soon.

It will be dinner time for the girls soon. Stay safe. - Victoria Pike

Council on Postsecondary issues 'College Still Pays' policy brief

Employment for those with degrees has climbed more than twice as fast as for those with just high school. Unemployment rates less than half for those with some college. Earnings for those with degrees over twice that of those who stopped at end of high School. Earnings gap over a lifetime continues to be huge

By Sue Patrick

"College Still Pays," a policy brief issued today by the Council on Postsecondary Education, shows that now more than ever it pays for Kentuckians to get a college degree or credential. College attainment helps insulate citizens from unemployment and provides access to higher-paying jobs.

Jobs requiring at least some college have been growing rapidly in Kentucky. By 2020, it is estimated that 56 percent of Kentucky's jobs will require at least some postsecondary education.

The splendor of living during a simpler time

I, too, have this postcard along with two or three more. I found them at Meadow Hill Inn several years ago. If memory serves me correctly, the room to the right of the entrance on the first floor was Mrs. Mary Evelyn Walker's. She was my third grade teacher and one of my favorites.

One of my fondest memories was when I was in Mrs. Dudley's split class of 5th and 6th graders.
