Poetry by Robert Stone: Sonnet for MLK Day

Within the other
- a sonnet for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
When being unappreciated moves
routine to pause and ask to be involved,
superior self-centered disapproves
and blind refuses humble be absolved.

Imprisoned either by false love or law
unchaining may but come with final breath.
Within the other we can spot some flaw
allowing condemnation even death.

Denouncing souls and bodies as unfit
is bullying by ignorant, by learned
who clueless rant, who scheming fraud commit
believing self above those they have spurned.

Yet eyes wide open dream that future time
when mercy, truth, and justice deal with crime.

- Robert Stone, 21 January 2013

(Ad) A little activity in Freecycle, and an innovative idea

A Freecycling ad has just been posted for Four display shelf unit to be given away, and the party is hoping they will be taken today. Freecycle works so well that many times there are none.

However, there may come a time, thanks to a visionary Freecycler, who recently wrote, after a Successful Riddance, "I'm tempted to just list my garage and let people have anything they want except the car. Great way to get the garage cleared out-something I've been threatening to do for 10 years." That ought to keep Freecycling alive for some time. It's a FREE category. To give away some useful but unneeded item, use Contact/Submit Button for individuals in Adair, Casey, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, Russell and Taylor Counties, KY. To see What's Free, What's Paid, and how to submit an ad, see Rates & Terms. And yes, banner ads, like the one in CM Automotive are available.

If it's in your way, give it away. Don't throw it away. FREECYCLE

Bell story elicits memory of significant moment in Columbia life

When Joe Taylor, Sr. died, there was an unforgettable tribute to him, a time when students at the school made an unforgettable, solemn tribute to a quiet, gentle, steadfast man, the janitor, who was always there, in the background doing his job so well.
From notes from Ann Curtis

The story in Sunday with CM, January 20, 2013, about the new life for the bell from Columbia Graded and High school, elicited a reminder about the man who rang the bell, Joe Taylor, Sr.

Ann Heskamp Curtis wrote, "I enjoyed the story of the old school bell and think it's great that it will be a feature at the new school. I must say that although I attended the Columbia Grade Center for 8 years in the 1950s, I have no memory of the bell!"

But what she does remember is of even more importance, about Mr. Taylor's death:
"I do remember Mr. Joe Taylor, however. He was such a kind and gentle soul. When he died, all of the schoolchildren were taken to pay our respect at the funeral home. We walked from the school at the top of Guardian Street, around the Square and to the funeral home on Greensburg St., where we reverently filed through, single file."
She adds, "Things were certainly different then, weren't they?"
