Supports Death Penalty in crimes of certain nature

Pat Hare writes:
I agree with the Death Penalty in a crime of this nature, especially if the accused agrees he/she committed the crime. It would save the taxpayers money, and send a message to future potential criminals. - Pat Hare

Scenic Adair Co., KY: Crepe Myrtle & Sonic

2012-07-27 - Jamestown & Tutt Streets area, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Late July and August is Crepe (or Crape) Myrtle time in Columbia, KY. The one on the right in the photo is the heritage symbol of the beautiful shrub's popularity in Columbia. It's Tutt Street, and has been a bellwether for crepe myrtle fanciers for decades, possibly begun in the Roscoe Antle era for the home. The view is from Wendy's, past Golden Rule-Wilson, over Tutt Street, to the Sonic drive-in restaurant, whose colors and geometry complement the season. Other much watched crepe myrtles are at the Eubank home on Jamestown Street, and one we like, on Fortune Street by Windstream telephone exchange building. It's a living monument to a wonderful neighbor and a beloved Adair County teacher, Nell Tarter Rogers.

Pickett's Chapel VBS Provides 39 Pairs of Kicks for Kids Shoes

VBS had extraordinary attendance, too, in addition to outstanding effort for Kids Need Kicks
Click on headline for story with photo(s)

By Nancy Taylor

Pickett's Chapel United Methodist Church completed their annual Vacation Bible School last week with a wonderful turnout of 70 children attending, as well as 42 adults participating in various locations throughout "SonRise National Park.

This year, along with the VBS lessons, we chose to teach the children the act of "Giving Back to God" with His tithes and our offerings. We asked the children to bring in spare change and loose dollars. We explained nightly that the "Kicks Need Kids" collection would be our VBS mission theme this year, and at the end of the week, the total money collected would be used to purchase new school shoes for underprivileged children of Adair County.

After Monday's announcement, the children came in each night excited to announce that they had brought their "shoe dollars", and we are excited to announce that our VBS "Kicks Need Kids" collection was used to purchase 39 pairs of shoes and 16 pairs of socks. We appreciate all of the children and their parents who helped support our VBS mission theme this year. - Nancy Taylor

There is lot of goodwill for Westlake doctors, nurses, caregivers

The writer takes no side in the issues of management, but she does write of the deep affection the people of Adair County have for the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Westlake Regional Hospital. In a time of great need, these people came through for her family. It is, today, an oft repeated story. -CM
I don't have the answers to the business problems the hospital faces. I wish I did. But in the midst of all the business issues let's not forget what that big brown building holds. It holds the loved ones of families and the people who care for them. I am thankful for the Westlake Hospital, and what they did for my Nanny Bea -GEORGINA N. ROY

By Georgina N Roy

In the last months, I have read many accounts of the management and financial issues with Westlake Regional Hospital.

I had begun to think of that big brown brick building as "The Hospital", a place that would set as a burden on the shoulders of Adair County for many years to come.

  5. What are you most concerned I might do?

People are responding to this opportunity to help build a house for this wonderful family. Not a day goes by that we do not receive money for the house. Many include kind words of encouragement.

One out-of-town lady wrote: "May God bless all of you who are making this home possible, and may God bless Mary and all of her children in this home." These special notes are being kept as well as pictures of everyday events to create a scrapbook of this project for the family.
