He had a career as a supervisor for Kerns Baking Co. lasting some 42 years and loved farming. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War

Columbia Police make cocaine arrest

On Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at approximately 1:18amCT, the Columbia Police Department arrested 31 year old Deondrick K. Davis after a traffic stop. Davis was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree (cocaine) and careless driving. He was lodged in the Adair Country Regional Jail by CPD officer Drew Conn.From Columbia Police Department

Update at 2:55pmCT, Friday, July 13, 2012, This Boil Water Advisory completely lifted
UPDATE PARTIAL LIFTING: As of 2:05pm on July 12, 2012 the boil water advisory for customers on
South Reed Street, East Fortune Street, All Of Public Square and East Frazier Street
has been lifted by the Division of Water Columbia office. This means your water is safe for human consumption. You no longer have to boil your water. Thank you
CAUD (Columbia Adair Utilities District)
A BOIL WATER ADVISORY is in effect for consumers of Columbia Adair Utilities District for customers on
South Reed Street, East Fortune Street, All Of Public Square, Burkesville Street, East Frazier Street and West Frazier Street.
The advisory has been issued due to main line leak.

Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore this Boil Water Advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure.

Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bringing the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using.

This advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality.

Adair Co., KY fire destroys Biggerstaff body shop, vehicles

The Adair County Fire Dept responded to a fire on Tuesday nigh, July 10, 2012, at 11:48pmCT to 257 Richards Lane, Columbia, to find a 45 x 45 shop building used for body shop engulfed in fire. The owner was Danny Biggerstaff of Columbia. The building was a total loss. Also destroyed in the fire was a 2005 Dodge Truck, 2011 Jeep Wrangler, 1970 Chevelle, and a Harley Davidson motorcycle. There were 17 firemen on the scene for about 1 hour and 45 minutes and the origin of the fire has not been determined. - Donald Hare

The Adair County Fiscal Court voted unanimously to approve a letter from Adair County Judge Ann Melton to Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway, seeking clarification on the Adair County Hospital Board's stated intentions to re-instate a hospital tax to pay for a "shortfall" of debt which would survive the sale of the hospital to a For Profit group, LifePoint, from Nashville, Tennessee.
