QUERY: Wants more information on Josephine Walker

While working on a project, we are playing a little bit of a "history detective" role. With your vast readership, and so many folks interested in geneaology and history in our area, we were wondering if anyone has any information or photographs of a Ms Josephine "Josie" Walker (1896-1944). She lived in a little home on Greensburg Street (which is no longer standing). Her brothers and sisters were: Ellen Walker, Sophie Walker, William "Bill" Walker, and Hugh Walker (all lived and died in Adair Co). Niether her nor her four living siblings ever married or had children to our knowledge. All lived together and through time died, leaving Ms Josie as the last of the family. We have already gained a considerable amount of info from the Adair Public Library's genealogical section. Call or contact us at: 270-250-3778 or tiffhadley@hotmail.com Thanks in advance!! -Eddie & Tiffany Kessler

The Hospital Tax far from Done Deal? CJE wants Attorney General opinion

Judge Melton asks those opposed, as she is, to the proposed Hospital Tax to call her office at 270-384-4703 and/or to to call their Magistrates, Harold Burton (1) 250-2579, Daryl Flatt (2) 634-1033, Sammy Baker (3) 378-1536, Perry Reeder (4) 634-3234, Billy Dean Coffey (5) 250-4449, Joe Rogers (6) 250-3285, and Billy Rowe (7) 634-0334. to let them know their feelings. She invites the public to be at the 7pmCT, July 10, 2012 Regular Meeting of the Adair Fiscal Court to let their feelings on the proposed tax be known.

By Ed Waggener

The highly unpopular move by the Adair County Hospital District and Spectrum Health Partners to impose a hospital tax to survive a sale of Westlake is far from a done deal. Adair County Judge Ann Melton, who has been studying the issue for weeks now, thinks a number of questions remain to be answered before such a tax could happen and she's asking the Adair Fiscal Court to approve a letter to Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway to clarify questions about the legality of such a tax.

Found Dog: came to Judy Grant house this morning

Judy Grant writes:
We awoke this morning to the dogs barking at a strange dog in my yard. She is wearing a flea collar and looks healthy (someone is feeding her) but she has a skin problem. It looked like mange but I'm not sure. She was last seen going out of Garrett Road. don't know where she went to after she left. I think she might have got scared during the storms last night. I pray she finds her way back home. If she is your dog, call me and I'll try and help you find her. She looked scared and wants to go home. Judy Grant 270-378-4719 - Judy Grant

The selfless brave-a villanelle for Sparky

The selfless brave
-a villanelle for Sparky
Too seldom do we praise the selfless brave,
those caring ones who join a band of brothers
who perils face both life and goods to save.

Their care permits our living outside cave
within which seeking seeming safety smothers.
Too seldom do we praise the selfless brave.

Their diligence our paths with calmness pave,
what greater gifting by devoted others
who perils face both life and goods to save.

Our common days are filled with what we crave,
the wanting needless when we see another's.
Too seldom do we praise the selfless brave.

Our special days are marked by what they gave,
those daughters, sons, those siblings, fathers, mothers
who perils face both life and goods to save.

To those who strive that freedom's banners wave,
our thanks for daily life that safety covers.
Too seldom do we praise the selfless brave,
who perils face both life and goods to save.

- Robert Stone, 8 July 2012
