Tests show wide variations at Adair County venues

Air quality tests in 10 hospitality venues
showed wide variations in hazards for guests. The very lowest were taken in hospitality venues already smoke free. The highest were in those which allow smoking or have no smoking "area" not separated by doors. The Health Department did not identify the venues tested.

Adair County KY, June 18, 2012 -- A report released today confirms that Adair County KY's indoor air in hospitality venues contains high levels of fine particle air pollution from secondhand smoke. Indoor air quality was assessed in ten Adair County KY hospitality venues. During the sampling period, the level of fine particle air pollution was nearly 2.7 times higher in Adair County KY than the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) for outdoor air.

The descendants of Wayman Irvin and Minnie Susan Burton will be gathering for the first ever Burton Reunion! This event will take place at 12pm noon, CT, on Sunday, June 24, 2012. VFW Hall, 411 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY on Sunday, June 24, 2012. Food will begin being served at 1pmCT The dinner will be potluck so all participants are encouraged to bring a covered dish; meat will be supplied.

For entertainment, Living Waters, a bluegrass gospel band, will be performing. Also, there will be a live auction of misc. items donated and a cake walk! We are asking that each family or person brings at least one item for the auction and something sweet for the cake walk prizes.

All money gathered from the auction and cake walk will go to the cost of the building rental, supplies, and the meat furnished. If any proceeds are left over they will go into a fund for next year's event. --Cindy Burton cindy.burton@kctcs.edu

Dr. Roger Dale Smith DMD among speakers at Smoke Free event

REVELATION DAY is TODAY at 11amCT, June 18, 2012: Identities of the specific restaurants won't be given, but comparisons will be made of conditions in the Adair County Hospitality venues to those in smoke free cities. Progress is being made in Adair County, where, the Lake Cumberland Health Department List of Smoke Free Restaurants now lists two new smoke free establishments in Columbia, Dickey's BBQ and its next door neighbor, Taco Bell in the 900-1000 block of Jamestown Street, as Smoke Free, bringing the number of smoke free eateries to 14 in Adair. Casey County has three; Cumberland, two; Green, two; Russell County, 17; and in Taylor County - Thanks to a proactive public health ordinance passed by the Campbellsville City Council - all restaurants in Campbellsville are smoke-free!

The murder of Sarah B. Hart: Accused to be arraigned in Jamestown, KY today

The murder of Sarah B. Hart Next earlier story: Jamestown, KY man, 28, charged with murder of Sarah B. Hart

Larry Smith, News Anchor for the WAVE, FM 92.7, called this morning, Monday, June 18, 2012, to report that the arraignment of Christoper W. Allman, 28, Miller Drive, Jamestown Kentucky, is scheduled in Russell Circuit Court today. The time is not yet entered on the Kentucky Court of Justice web page, which, at this post, was last updated June 15, 2012.

TFC Billy Gregory of Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY, reported on June 14 that Allman had been arrested and charged with the murder of 31-year-old Sarah B. Hart. Allman was arrested at the Jamestown Police Department at 5:09pmCT. He was also charged with Robbery, Kidnapping and Tampering with Physical Evidence and that Allman was lodged in the Russell County Jail.
