Wonders about spelling of Grear/Greer in North Carolina people

Comments re article 52254 JIM The surnames of 19021910 influx of North Carolina People Adair Co KY

Dana Greer Harmon writes:
I am wondering about the spelling of George H. And Alewy Grear in the Casey Creek precinct. I believe my Grandfather, Charles Wesley Greer, told me that his ancestors settled in the Knifley area from North Carolina. My great grandparents were Benjamin and Maggie Osborn Greer, but that's about as far back as I know. Could the surname have been misspelled in the census records? On another note; was the Chapel Cemetery behind the Knifley Christian Church named after the Chapels mentioned in this census? Very interesting information. --Dana Greer Harmon
Thanks, Dana Greer Harmon, for the questions. We hope readers will have the answers. I'm anxious to know, myself. -EW

Twin mare mules, one red and one black, have caused quite a stir in the horse community of Adair County. The births were a surprise, at least to Connie and son Barry Stotts, on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, when the first one was seen trailing behind his father, Stan the Man, and a bigger surprise when the second one was seen nursing their mother, registered Walking Horse, Judie, a few minutes later.

Fred Troutmans remarks at Memorial service

Fred Troutman had it right; Chris Hayes did not, until he apologized

Roger D Smith DMD writes:
Ed, After reading Mr. Fred Troutman's speech I found it especially rude that MSNBC's Chris Hayes made his remarks on television questioning the use of "Hero" as it applies to fallen servicemen and women. It is truly sad that many of our young people are not educated in the sacrifices that many in our very community and in this great country have suffered to allow this "commentator" the right to speak as he did.

I do understand that Mr. Hayes has issued a retraction to his earlier comments and apologized for his lack of understanding. This is truly too little and too late for those families who lost love ones in combat.

As Mr. Hayes stated and I think a lot of my fellow veterans will agree, not everyone has to go out in a "hail of gunfire" to be called a Hero! God Bless America! --Roger D Smith DMD
