Drake Duncan makes US Open cut at Nicholasville, KY

Duncan, a 2012 graduate of South Warren High School, is the grandson of Richard Lee and Marsha Walker of Columbia, KY, and the son of Leigh Ann Duncan Parkinson of Bowling Green, KY. He has played the course at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson on several occasions.

Having Red Ripe Tomatoes off the vine in Montpelier, KY

Joe Coffey, the extraordinary gardener of Montpelier, KY, reported yesterday that he and wife Ada Troutman Coffey have already harvested and eaten 10 tomatoes. The plants were started in March indoors, but are now in his garden.

A neighbor across the line in Russell County, Mr. Terry Lawless, has harvested tomatoes, too, so he isn't claiming any record. He said that Mr. A.L. Sinclair, a tomato grower in Columbia, KY, has also eaten homegrown tomatoes.

Midnight fire destroys barn, hay on Marvin Buck Smith Place

The Adair County Fire Department responded to a hay barn fire at 00:16amCT, Thursday morning, May 17, 2012, on Coyote Lane off of Pelham Branch Road, Columbia, KY. Upon arrival the barn was totally engulfed in fire, destroyed was a 56 x 96 hay barn, 350-400 rolls of hay. The property was owned by Marvin "Buck" Smith. 2012 Adair Genealogy & History Book Fair

The Historic Adair County Courthouse, 500 Public Square, in Columbia, KY, will be the location of the first annual History & Genealogy Book Fair & Sale, Saturday, June 2, 2012 10am-3pm (CT). Admission and parking are free, and the event is open to the public.

In addition to sales of the many and varied publications available only from the participating historical and genealogical societies and individuals of the region, books and other genealogical and historical supplies will be available.

Planners expect to have various free events during the day, including, but not limited to: Author readings, Scanning booth to scan photos, documents, Bible records, etc., Lineage Societies, Door Prizes, Silent Auction of donated items, plus tours of the Historic Adair County Courthouse.

Pauline C. Daffron, Taylor Co., KY (1913-2012)

She was a native of Wayne County, KY and the matriarch of a large, respected Taylor County, KY, family and leaves a host of direct living descendants to mourn her death. She had professed faith in Christ and was of the Baptist faith

Pauline C. Daffron, 89, of Campbellsville, KY, died at 12:28pm, Monday, May 14, 2012, in Greensburg, KY.

Funeral services are at 2pmET/1pmCT, Thursday, May 17, 2012 ,at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, 418 Lebanon Avenue, Campbellsville, KY, by Rev. Jim Durham. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, W. Main Street, Campbellsville, KY.

COLUMBIA, KY - Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education President Robert L. King was the featured speaker Tuesday at the monthly Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce, held at William T.'s restaurant at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson.

King, who has been Kentucky's higher-education chief since January 2009, spoke about the need for colleges and universities to collaborate with elementary and high schools to better prepare students for college-level work.

Following his talk to the chamber, King toured Lindsey Wilson College and met with LWC administrators.
