Kentucky Color - Daisy Fleabane

Daisy Fleabane is one of my favorites he says.
Click on headline for item with photo(s)

By Billy Joe FudgeRetired District Forester, Kentucky Division of Forestry

A Daisy by any other name might just be Fleabane. There are nearly 200 different wildflowers that can fall under the Fleabane category. I've most often heard this one referred to as Daisy Fleabane and is "one of my favorites." Of all the beautiful wild daisies this I believe is the earliest spring bloomer in the Great Wooded South and certainly has the most delicate white petals. It usually appears in early April which is when I found this specimen growing along the roadside.

Just a note, if you've ever been graced by Ms. Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz radio show on NPR on Saturday Nights you will likely remember that most numbers performed on her show are "one of her favorites". I suppose I'm much like Marian in that whatever shows up in front of my camera might fall into the category of "one of my favorites". - Billy Joe Fudge

A lot going on in a little bitty alley, Mimi Moore says

Comments re photo 45201 The Foster Children regulars and favorites at Art in the Alley

Mimi Moore writes:
Thank you so much Mr. Waggener for publishing so many Green County photos-- especially those of Art in the Alley. It is such a fun, laid back day listening to live music and enjoying the various art booths, that one can literally get lost in the old time, small town experience in our little bitty alley! Thank you again and tell all our friends around the area come see us anytime - especially this Saturday! - Mimi Moore
CM Note: Mimi Moore can often be found at the Longhunter's Coffee Shop/Kentucky Marketplace, 115-117 Public Square, Greensburg, KY. To put that place in perspective, it is next door to the Kentucky Headhunters Cafe. She's one of the leaders of the amazing Green County renaissance, including the restoration of the wonderful old Green River House downtown hotel, a big reason why Adair Countian Jimmy Downey says he'd rather visit Greensburg, KY than Colonial Williamsburg. -Ed Waggener
