Columbia Poetry Nights continue to have strong support

From Christina O'Rourke

The second Poetry Night at the Cafe on the Square showed that they continue to have strong support, with 12 persons showing up to read a variety of poetry, a number which seemed to be suppressed slightly because of Fall Break at Lindsey Wilson and Adair County High School.

Those reading to the enthusiastic audience were Jordan Coomer, Gabrielle Reagin, James Brown, Billy Joe Fudge, Dave Grigsby, Amelia Withers, lee barko, Darlene Campbell, Sam Johnson, Ray Moore, Beth, and Greg Blair.

There is no charge to attend. Readers can just show up with favorites of their own works or selections by other poets.

The next Poetry Night will start at 5pmCT, Monday, November 14, 2011, at the Cafe on the Square, 212 Public Square, Columbia, KY. Contact Christina O'Rourke at christina.orourke@gmail.com with any questions.

No kill dog pound has happy customers

Letter: Amazing dog stories

I was reading an article about someone breaking into a no kill kennel in Pensacola, Florida and letting all of the dogs loose.

When the workers came to work this morning all the dogs but one were waiting on the front lawn for the workers.

I know this will make a few people smile.

I had a Jack Russell run away one time and he went to his vet's office and waited till somone came to let him in. -MELEWI

Wet Vote: Wants drinks, not smoke, with meals

Letter: Columbia resident enjoys Campbellsville restaurant :

Just a note to let the residents of Adair County know that you can still have a drink with your meal. You can go to Campbellsville and sit in a non-smoking establishment and have a nice drink with your meal. There was no one drinking and getting drunk. Did not have to smell anyone's smoke with our meal. On a Monday night the place had a good business. So not smoking does not hurt the bussiness. Jusy thought you might like to know that residents of Adair County will spend money else where if Adair County still wants to live in the Dark ages. -WAYNE ARMITAGE, Columbia, KY

An egg of a different color

Click on headline for article with photo(s)

By Barbara Armitage

I am so pleased that several of my friends raise chickens and share their eggs with me.Bill Lewis and wife Maury aka Melewi promised me farm fresh eggs when their chickens got big enough to lay.

Today was the day but I'm kinda wondering if these chickens have been "laying about" with the Easter Bunny - they're almost too pretty to eat. Almost is the operative word here cos' I'm planning on green eggs and ham for breakfast tomorrow.

Who wants those plain old white eggs when you can have these beautiful green ones?

Dr. Seuss would be so proud. -BARBARA ARMITAGE
